Chris Wertman RIP
It saddens me to announce the passing of Chris "Drooze" Wertman Saturday night at 8:30. Though I only knew him for the last two months as a team member and a friend, he will be missed by all that came in contact with him. His humor and posts on Classracer was classic. He was devoted to the Mopar DP project. Our prayers go out to his family and friends. Keith Lynch and Family.

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
So sad to hear this. Our hearts go out to his family.Only "talked" to him a few times on here, but we never met. His candle didn't burn long, but you can't deny it did burn brightly. I think we all are a little bit better off for having been introduced to Drooze. There was an enthusiasm there that was undeniable, even if it was the classic 2 steps forward and 1 step back story. The man didn't give up and I'll admire him for that. Godspeed, Chris.

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
I got the text this morning. It still hasnt set in. I just keep thinking that its some sort of elaborate hoax. Chris an I had talked about how no press is bad press on a regular basis. I did not want to say anything on class racer till someone a little closer to the family made a proper thread about this.
I thought for sure that I would be the talk of class racer and or class racing as a whole this year, with my unorthodox platform and unnatural aspirations. Thus far it has not been my over thinking or complicating, not so midlife crisis, or my fiscal roller coaster that have delayed finishing my car that has kept me from being the talk of class racing in 2010. It was Chris "Drooze" Wertman. I could of gone out there and and qualified 1 an set records every race, and Drooze would still have the spotlight. I have been a lurker on this site for years. Did not start posting until this year. I may be a wrong wheel drive guy, or an import guy in some peoples eyes around here, but I am am no stranger to nhra sportsman racing. With that being said.. I was always a little concerned with how I may be received on class racer. I remember first reading some of Chris's posts and thinking "Man they're going to eat this guy alive.. He will not continue to post" I admit even being a newb to class racing I did not take him serious at first. And all though the NHR guys have not accomplished all there goals just yet... I think they have shown us while they may be a little green, they are to be taken serious. I hope you guys continue and use this as energy to shoot for some records and some wins. I can just here Chris saying oh this is marketing genius! Im not trying to make light of the situation... I just really could see him saying this! MR Lynch.. I dont know what the future holds for you and NHR, but I am shooting to have my A/FS car at Bowling Green, and hopefully that will get me in to Indy... I live north of Cincy and am in Dayton and go to Kil Kare all the time. Let me know if you could use any help in the mean time. Anything from logistics to shop cleaning. |

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
We are completely shocked and dismayed.....our sincere prayers and thoughts are with the Wertman family and friends in their time of loss. I had an opportunity to visit with Chris in Vegas and was very impressed with him in person........I truly just wish we could have spent more time together. He was a totally unique individual of the kind that does not come along very often in this world!

" Tell me the truth, how do you feel? Like you're rollin' so fast that you're spinnin' your wheels? Don't feel too bad, you're not all alone We're all tryin' to get along With ev'rybody else try'n' to go their way You're bound to get tripped, and what can you say? Just go along 'til they turn out the lights There's nothin' we can do to fight it No man's got it made till he's far beyond the pain And we who must remain go on living just the same " |

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
Some people are never fully appreciated until they are taken from our lives. The Drooze offered much to be appreciated. The devastation of losing him will be greatly felt amongst the class racing community with his wit, insight, and all around good guy nature.
RIP C.W. :( You will be greatly missed by many. |

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
Brenda and I send our condolences to Chris' family. Chris unknowingly provided inspiration to all of us, even those who won't admit it. Inspiration can be in a positive/direct form or a reverse psychology type, in any case he did inspire me in both ways.

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
I never met Chris, but what I would give to have his drive and motivation. I never experienced anyone who went through so much and kept looking forward, most would have given up. As someone else said, racing just doesn't seem so important today. Rest in Peace.

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
I never got to meet Chris. But I felt like I knew him from reading his posts here on classracer. I did speak to him on the phone for a few hours, and he was just as energetic on the phone as he was behind the keyboard. He was willing to talk to and give advice to a complete stranger. I think that we can all learn a lot from his passion for life and for racing. He put 110% into everything that he did and never purposely left anything on the table. Chris will definitely be missed in the class racing community. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Chris's family and friends. RIP Chris.

Re: Chris Wertman RIP

Re: Chris Wertman RIP
My heart is breaking. Chris was one of my dearest online pals here. A witty creative and dear man.
He represented everything that is most important to me in racing: love of Family & the sport, never giving up, and smiling through all the hard times. Prayers and love to Chris' family, he will be missed greatly and remembered forever. Rarely does someone you've never met in person touch your life so deeply. Godspeed Drooze, Ed and I miss you already. |
