Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
In all the excitement of the August-like tempreture & subsequent Pollen storm at the D-1 opener at Atco this weekend we somehow overlooked the accomplishment of fellow Stock Elim racer Jerry McNeish, who after a long chase & a lot of hard work finally nailed the D-Stick record with his new 67 Z-28.
He set the record at a 10.45 which is amazing considering how lousy the conditions were. Low barometer & high temps in the 90's Congrats to Jerry |
Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Great job on the record. I bet Mr. Duzac in D4 took notice. I met him in Pine Valley a few weeks ago and my son and I have never seen a nicer car anywhere that car is spectacular.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
I saw at least one of his runs and it was impressive to say the least! Reminded me of the old days but with a big wheels up launch and much faster et's.......

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Congratulations Jerry on setting that record! You have really turned that new Z/28 into a speed demon in just one year. That high-strung 302 continues to amaze.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Very cool story. Makes me want to fix my 1969 GTO.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
These Camaro guys do it right. Jerry's car is awesome. Duzac's car is just as nice under the car as the paint on the outside.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
I'll bet Duzac has a 10.40 something on tap....;)

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Dear Jerry, congrads on the record, some really impressive runs. Glad to see you got your wish. Joe Fasano.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Thanks to all of you for your support. I do appreciate the kind comments.
I was ready to go home on Thursday's test and tune. I had to take the car all apart by myself. Thanks to Sam Murray and that "never give up" attitude, it came together. Still can't believe it...........will never forget this weekend. Jerry |
Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Who builds his engines ?? :):D;)

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Jerry, Please call me @ 602-418-9797 regarding Holley restorations. I have some 4584-S carbs which are similar to early Z-28 engineering prototypes.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Congrats Jerry, Just think how big it was when one of those cars ran 10.99. Great acomplishment....

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
So now that the crate motors are ok then a 2 4v cross ram Z-28 should be ok?????

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
This is an amazing acomplishment! First of all the weather was not all that great, when Jerry made this incredible pass! The DA was about 1100 feet and the baro was around 29.65 (Which is no where near mineshaft conditions)
I have known Jerry for the better part of 35 years and he is a unique individual, the word "Quit" is not in his vocabulary. He has encountered more than enough bad luck during the last couple of months. This includes breaking a Jerico, ruining his good clutch and blowing up his new "Bub" engine, all in one run. While most racers would just go back home and rest, our boy Jerry had other plans! The smoke was still blowing off of the spun bearings, while he was on the cell phone (which I believe is attached to his left hand) making sure that his fresh engine was shipped in time, so that he could perform the swap, when he got home. Jerry is not much of a spectator, so while still in Carolina, he personally visited Jerico and spent $2600.00 for a transmission tune up. Did I mention that Jerry also believes in stimulating our economy. Once he got back home the team put the Z-28 back in running condition in two days and then full speed to Atco for the National Open. Here the air was good and Jerry was ready to attempt a record run, but no as Howard Cosell once said. More bad luck, a clutch problem ambushed my friend on the starting line. Again any normal racer, who is not on a mission, would take a step back. Not Jerry, back to the garage pull the clutch out and make a road trip to Nitro Nick, back to the garage and install the new clutch for the Atco points race in two days. Thursday Test and tune proved to be another all nighter for Jerry, as the clutch again was a PROBLEM! Can't give up now, pull the trans and clutch, consult with Sam Murray "The Godfather of Stick shift racing" and after several hours passed at last, a complete pass was made! Wow I am tired just relaying the story. Well the rest is history and I want to congradulate my friend, who still had enough in him to stop and help me with a tire blowout on the way home from Atco. I hope the rest of the season is a little easier on two old guys! |

Jack , Yes, I had 67 Z28 and went a 10.86 @122 in April of 91, and set the record at a 10.95. So I can very much appreciate what Jerry has accomplished. I watched his car leave and it was working great. Kent |
Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
As an original owner of a 68 Z/28, I'm in awe. I would like to meet you and your car someday. Congratulations, Walt.

Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Congrats again for a great record run. I raced a 69 in F/S in '71 and went as fast as 12.34 on the then 12.31 record with basically a pure stock combination, but would have never thought mid 10's were possible. "WOW" How technology and rules have changed. Maybe when I get this old girl to the track again I will see how she will do...
I know I will not shift as fast and a bit slower at the lights but it will bring back good old memories especially if it didn't break. Thanks for all you do guys..... |
Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record
Jerry: Again, congrats on setting the record! Perseverance can accomplish great results. Way to hang in there! It was nice to see you again for lunch in our area. Let us know when you're in the area again.
