Rock, to me this total "BS" on Jay's part. And I hope the commitee dosen't sit on their hands on this.

The folks that chose to use to look at the forcast and made the call to "come in out of the rain" are now being punished. I could not justify spending several hundred dollars just to sit and watch it rain. And I was right !!!!!!

Jay just made it a deal, where you "HAVE" to show up. No matter what!!! "TOTAL BS"

First time I've missed Indy in a long time. I saved a vacation day and $500, but have been bummed all weekend. Fields are now closed, but I couldn't go on on the weekend of 5-21 & 5-22 anyway. Turns out to be a good decision on my part.

maybe with the qualified fields?
but super classes???? WTF!

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

I would be unhappy if I were you also......but its not Jays call......he just printed off the rules for the situation and handed them to me....tech is closed ...if it was postponed before tech is closed then the fields would have been open........that's why the fields are closed....NHRA has written rules for all that stuff....he may have chosen the new date.....but I'm sure if it was up to him he would have opened the fields up....because it's more money for the division....and many more guys would have come out if the forecast was better....

Rock.........now that I"m chilled alittle............I'll explain........in my case, I need grade,, couldn't make it to St. Louis due to my Mom passing. Thought I was wise to pass on Indy due the the weather and the expense. And now I'm locked out ........Thats 2 grade points I've just lost. I know, thats my bad luck, but....................

If they would run doubble grade and competition points for the SMP event think how the car counts would be!!

....................instead of rescheduling Indy................advantage racers and NHRA!

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

That would be great for those racers that were planning to attend the race at SMP or those that live close by. But for those that are 9+ hours away and weren't planning to attend that race it would SUCK!

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

Rick.....tech closed on Saturday....always does....the rulebook section 10:6 and 7
I think says how its supposed to go in a rain situation....nothing to do with anybody involved....I will ask the powers that be if the rules can be changed because of the economy and weather situations......I'm sure Jay would like the fields to be open....its not his call.....it was written years ago....I'm sure I'm gonna hear why its that way....

CBS, Bobby thanks for info on tech......for the past 20 yrs of me doing this, I guess I've never had any reason to be concern with closing of tech.........have always been an early guy!

CBS, fair enough on rule change request.

Thanks

granted this was my first div race, but i .02 is this....if i took the chance to go and get rained out,why would it be fair for them to let anyone else enter the rescheduled race if they stayed at home ? i took the gamble and lost, but i made the decision to go knowing this might happen.....so i would have to say if you didnt go .... you took a gamble, and lost ...again just my .02 and not trying to piss anyone off

This is copied from another message board. I was not there, so I can not answer:

Did the super stock cars get a pass? It is my understanding that they did not and if not, didn't they say at the track on Saturday that if ALL classes did not recive a run that the make-up would be an open field and open to all who wanted to enter.

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

I am one of those racers who watched the weather for a week prior to Indys race. Like most, I don't have the money to drive hundreds of miles to sit in a rain out or "gamble" on if the event will be run. As I see it, if not even one round of eliminations was run, then the race never happened! So why not let more cars in, make the track more money, and let other possible racers come on the rescheduled date. Also, not sure what rulebook is being looked at, but I see no rule about closing fields. Will NHRA ever make a good decision?

Bob Verwold 04-25-2010 05:56 PM

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

Having been there, I agree with Chillik except for Super Stock, those guys should have been the first out Saturday then S/C and the balance of the cars that didn't get a hit. But I don't make the rules, just try to play by them.
Something I was glad to see was calling the race about 9:30 instead of 4:00 or 5:00 ( something that should have been done Thursday AM ) and spending another day in the RAIN...........Now this is just my .02
And yes I did bring enough beer..

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

The issue is once tech is closed the fields are what they are....I have the printed copy of the rules that have been in place for several years....the only decision made was when to call it...and if it was after tech closed on Saturday...which it was....then the fields would be closed.....I asked for them to be opened up.....what else can we do.....its bad for everybody.....I'm sure I will hear why the rules are the way they are....its always interesting to hear the other side of the story....

I will post when I hear back from them.....

I was there and only live 20 minutes from the track and if it was a divisional other than orp's and the weather looked like it did im pretty sure i wouldnt have made the drive after looking at the forcast. I think not leaving the fields open is very ignorant on nhra's part but what do you expect from them for the people who stayed home smart decision and i too think its bull **** that u cant enter in may. Seems like a win win for everyone. Rock im sure nothing u say will change their minds if thats what the rule says then im sure thats the way it will be. See you all in norwalk.

I was there in Superstock and will call the divisional office tomorrow, but does anyone know if you can get refunds for the 2 crew I had with me, since I live in Boston and will not be able to make the rain date.

How long after do they usually post your grade point or do we now have to wait until after the rescheduled date to get our grade point?

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

Rock, what keeps the NHRA having the Indy divisional in April? I can't remember what happened last year, but I do remember that it was a rainout in '08. I remember that because it was postponed to the following weekend, which cut into a vacation in South Carolina for me. Why don't they swap Indy and Bowling Green? Even without rain, Indy can sometimes be cold in April. Which Bowling Green, though not too much further south, it could be a few degrees warmer, which could help. Plus, having the Indy Divisional the week before US Nationals would increase turnout tremendously. And if it's a rainout, they would still have Monday and Tuesday to complete it. I'm sure most people that would come to the divisional would also attend the nationals if they can take the extra week off. My .02

schultz........I didn't find it either, but reading what was put on the div 3 website they show it as 10:6 and 10:7

It's not clear about weather as being the reason...........

It's a little cloudy ! lol

Hey guys...I have a question...so the ones that go back in three weeks do not have to tech again? Tech will be closed and you will just starting racing is that it??? I am trying to understand this whole ordeal as we also watched the weather and did not want to spend vacation days and the entry fees to sit in the rain...I can live by the rules if I totally understand them but this all seems confusing...

Thanks,

Amy

I thought tech "closed" after the last car went down the track in that classes final session. If Super Stock never turned a wheel then how did tech "close"? Doesn't really matter to me, I saved more than a $1000 by not attending. Thanks for saving me money nhra, this is a nice change for once. :)

Ron Finney 04-26-2010 06:41 AM

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

I agree the fields should be closed for two reasons. 1) its in the rules sheet/schedule they give you when you come in tech closes at noon Saturday. 2) If everyone sat home every time it looked like rain, we would have very few if any events. I agree this forecast was ominous and probably should have been postponed earlier. But, you have all of the Jeg's competitors that have to be decided before Chicago...so you have to take the chance.

You don't have to run all the events, they only count your top five. That leaves you room to make decisions about the trips you make. We have 6 races in D-3 plus you can run two out of division races, so there are lots of choices to try and out guess the weather.

I don't have a lot of money either, so maybe this should be one of the choices to skip. However, there is a lot more to the event than just the racing, lots of good friends and fun off the track. If you aren't having fun, and don't have the money....then skip the event.

Michael Lyons 04-26-2010 07:01 AM

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

No I can't afford to piss $700 away to go down there and watch it rain when it was obvious to many that there was no way this race wouldn't get postponed. I've spent $3000 this month alone in new safety equipment just to pass tech. But at some point a person has to use some sense about racing and wasting money. So p.o. friend..

Ron Finney 04-26-2010 08:07 AM

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

Dear friend,

Apparently you missed the part about choices.....I wasn't trying to make anyone mad, I want to race as bad as anyone. However, when things are tight, I don't make the long trips if things look questionable. As far as grade points for nationals, there are 6 divisionals, and three nationals opens. There is the opportunity to get 9 points without leaving the division. At most National events, 4 would be all you would ever need, and lately 2 would get you in most, so you can skip over half the races and still be in good shape.

schultz 04-26-2010 08:32 AM

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

People keep saying that those are the rules. If that's what it says then so be it, but where is this printed in the rule book that we get? The regulations they posted on the D3 website are not in my book. Do they have a double secret rule book that we are not allowed to see? According to what they printed a super class driver can switch classes if he or she wants, well if you parked your S/C car to bring your S/ST car wouldn't you have to have it teched? How can this happen if tech is closed? They really contradict themselves.

Amy,

Guessing they might look over the cars again, but they mean no new entries to look at. My question is does it allow class changing? Will 400 "Super Stocks" show up now??

In any case, a tough call to make vs. the weather from both the racer and division spots.

I'm just guessing here but my take on this would be.........switch your S/ST to S/G or S/G to S/C. Or you could go backwards........S/G to S/ST and so on...Not running another car.

Re: Indy Divisional Posponed

We're constantly told "schedule subject to change", this includes when tech closes also. If one class didn't didn't even make a qualifying pass how the powers that be can use the "tech closed" excuse for punishing people that used common sense and realized it was most likely to be a washout is bull shyt!
I'd wager if Sunday had been sunny and a superstocker showed up he would have miraculously been teched in and made his qualifying pass!
