Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
1967 Chevelle Malibu SS427
A L-72 427/425HP engine. That would have been 'one sweet combo' for the street. Paul |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
I had 67 chevelle ss convert with 427/435 vette engine in it fun car to drive.
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
67 Chevy II with the 427/435hp aluminum head 4spd. Now that would have made some serious cash on the street.
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
440 6-pack Darts would have been a piece of cake. Engine cradles, exhaust manifolds, radiators, etc. already existed.
Or, to avoid burned plug wires, they could have used a hemi instead. Oh well, at least we eventually got the K-car. |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Paul, I Know for a fact there was a 66 SS Chevelle in our town(Zanesville Ohio) with a factory 427 in it. I was always told it was a 425 horse, and they made like 1100 of them. I don't know that for a fact, but it did have SS 427 Badgeing in the grill and the finders. The guys name was Rambo. It was silver with black interier and a 4 speed.

Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Since I have a soft spot for the early 1975-1980 Chevy Monza, I think that the 350 4 barrel should have been an available option with factory 4 speed and 1 gear overdrive. Know that the 1975 smogger was in Calif as the 262 would not meet pollution specs...so I don't know why they didn't stick a quadrajet on it and sell it everywhere. Would have one quick little sleeper. Not to mention a damned good class car.

Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
64-65 Chevelle Malibu or 300 post car with a 409/425,4 speed,3.73 posi 12 bolt.

Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
1965 Nova with a 327/375hp Corvette fuel injection combination.
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
I've heard about the 66' Chevelle SS427, but never saw one.
Would have been classed in A/S in 66'. But never seen any results of one campaigning in that class. Here's one that almost got done. A very-late project for 1967. 1967 Plymouth Barracuda/Dodge Dart with a 383/343HP dual-quad Carter-carbed set-up, just like the 62' 383/343HP combo. Unfortunately, the exhaust manifold problem could not be remedied, restricting exhaust flow. Not a bad combo for a 3150lb. car on the street/strip. Car would have fit nicely in C/SA for 1968, when the wt/hp breaks got straightened out. Paul,,,,,,,Keep them coming, great wish list! |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
'67-68 Mustang Fastback with a 2x4 Cammer FE. Enough units for Stock and Super Stock. That would just about do it for me.
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
68 vette with the 2x4 302 motor. that would have been a super fun car
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
S/C 401 Hornet
I've thought of a 409 '64 Chevelle also. I think it was Norms that put together 440 Darts for public sale. |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made

Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
A lot of the neat ones, such as a 440 six pack Dart, and a 64/65 Chevelle 409, have already been mentioned.
Instead of trying to shoehorn the SOHC 427 in a Mustang, put it in a "taxi cab" trim version of the 67 Fairlane. Or a Falcon with a 427 Tunnel port. 1969 Chevelle, 427/430 with aluminum heads. 1970 GM X body cars from all Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac (yeah, they didn't all have X body cars in 1970), with the top of the line 454/455 engines from the appropriate manufacturer, in "stripper" trim, with rubber mats, light seats, no air, etc. A Stage I 455 Apollo? A 455 Ventura? A W-30 Omega? Cheap, unusual, and quick. Real sleepers, too. The 70 1/2 Camaro with the 454 LS-6 (and make the LS-6 available across the board with the L-89 aluminum head option). For something bizarre but fun, a real hot rod 292 version of the GM OHC 6 cylinder, with a 3x2 carburetor setup and a 4 speed, in something light, say a 66-67 Chevy II. The 67 Z28 302, in a 67 Chevy II. Two Q-Jets on a high compression 500 Cadillac with a big cam, in a Coupe de Ville, with a switch pitch 400 turbo, and a 4.11 gear. A 409/425 in a 64 Chevy C-10 short bed step side, sort of like the "wannabe" 1990 454 SS pick up, but with a REAL hot rod engine. A 350 TPI from an 87 Camaro, in an 87 Monte Carlo SS, with a 5 speed. |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Just thought of another one. A 71 Comet with a 429 loaded. A shame they only made the Comets with 2 bbl carb only .
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Too bad the guys on this thread didn't work for the manufacturers.
Man, you guys could have put out some "BAD" machines. WJ, Seems you're partial to the 64' models. Nobody mentioned a 65' Buick Gran Sport, equipped with the Buick Riviera 425/360HP dual-quad. A 'Granny Grocery-Getter'. That 68' Vette with a 302 dual-quad/cross-ram. A nice combo. Paul |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
1965 442 with the 425 Toronado "Ultra High Compression" 370 HP engine with W-30 upgrade. Call it 385 HP.
1970-1971 Maverick / Comet with 302W 4bbl instead of 2bbl. Maybe even the Shelby GT-350 351W engine or Boss 302 in the 1970 model. How about a Boss 351 in the '71 models? '69 AMX with Superstock cross-ram 390 engine. 1970 also since AMC wanted (and tried) to get away with it. '71 - '74 Gremlin and Hornet 401. Mopar 6-packs in anything they fit in in the years offered. Same with the Z-28 302's & even LT-1, any model for years offered. If it fit under the hood, it was good! Boss 429 F-100 in 1969-1970. |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
how about a 63 Belair with a 327/375 FI? or better still a 63 Chevy II with that engine? I like the 68 or 69 corvette with the 302 also ;)

Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
I just thought of another one that would have added some punch to the 74 line up...74 Nova with the Corvette 454 (yea I know it was a turd but in 74....thing would have been bad!)

Or the 1966 Pontiac GTO, since the 421 was still being installed in the larger vehicles, a nice retro-version of the 63' HO 421/405HP dual-carbed 12.0-1 compression engine in the 66' GTO. Paul |

67 Mustang 427 Med. Riser 2 4v crab intake 4 speed.

71 Demon with a 440 bottom and a max wedge top just like Mopar planned.
67-71 Mopar A body with street Hemi. 65-66 Mustang Fastback with a 427/425 Hi riser. 70 LS 7 in the Corvette. 73 455SD in the Tempest. 64-65 Valiant with the Hyper Pak Slant Six and 4 speed. 70 Nova with LS1...from the factory. JimR |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
74 GTO with a bolt in SD 455 , tugboat bumpers and all..
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Since AMC is now considered a MoPar how about a race HEMI Pacer.....lol.
|
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
X-Tech,
A Hemi Pacer. Would love to see the Super/Stock springs work on the egg-shaped car! Someone mentioned the 70 AMX. A softer version of the S/S package. The 390 with the new 70' Dog-leg style exhaust port heads, with Mopar 440 valves. 11.0-1 compression, solid-lifter cam .(485 lift), an aluminum dual-plane high-rise, and 750cfm Holley. A nice HP-rating of say 360-370 (D/S or SS/G) Paul |
Re: Musclecars That Should Have Been Made
Ok ,heres more . Vega with the 454/450. and a pinto with the BOSS 429. oh how bout a Chevette with the 454 also just for the AMC egg fans. lol
