Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
A big thanks goes out to Bill Floyd (Nhra'a very own REDMAN).
He sent us a bunch of photos from early D3 days (taken at Edgewater and other KY and Ohio tracks). Please help me identify as many as these racers as you can. Sorry... I don't have any prizes. Here goes.... #1 http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ajetredpic.jpg #2 - who's in the red camaro? Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Great pictures.
Steel wheels, Cager SS (I must've had at least 4-5 sets of those, heaviest d>%# wheels ever made but they sure looked neat), slotted mag wheels, street tires, slapper bars. Simpler times, just thankful, I was fortunate enough to experience some of it. I may have even been there when some of those photos were taken, LOL. There was a 3 year stretch when I was at Edgewater about every to every other Saturday nite. Used to be a lot of Indiana people come down there. I was wondering about the green Mustang. There was an Ulrey that ran out of Seymour, Indiana, he always ran CJ motors. Thought he always ran full bodied Fairlanes or Torinos. Then again, that was a long time ago and am sure my memory has gotten fuzzy. He may have have had or was involved with a Mustang? Then again, that's likely somebody altogether different. |
Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Here is another car that had the Ulery name on it....

On the above thread I remember 3 of the 4 cars distinctly. The Burnell Camaro, if memory serves me was a replacement for the SS/I Chevy II. I remember seeing photos of the car after he and Don Wilson lost it off their trailer down in Tenn. Wilson helped me build a bracket motor in the 80's and we were taliking about this. Said "it was the scariest thing to watch your race car pass you going down a mountain"! |
Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
#10 maybe Bob Rains from Detroit area. I know he had a beige 1962 Dodge Max Wedge in 1962 (ex Terry Turowski car). I went in the army and lost track of him.

from the hopkins team. And the big red 65 dodge coronet is most likely Henry Schrenk from lebanon Oh. I dont think he ever had lettering in the side. |

Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Really nice shots here...love "Ty's Toy"...remember when those scoops were popular.
And that "Kahouna" is clean...anybody familiar with the yellow Nomad...was that a 6-cyl? Where was #25 & #29 taken? Thanks! |
Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Photos #25 and #29 were taken at the Bluegrass Dragway, near Lexington, KY. Unfortunately, it closed many years ago.
Additionally, someone was speculating on photo #10; I believe that car belonged to Jerry Rains, a businessman that currently lives on the NE side of Cincinnati. I had a pleasant talk with him at this years U.S. Nats.. |
Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Dallas, the 64 Plymouth behind you is Charley Frasier from your area. I understand he passed away a few years ago. The car was called "Nasty Rumor"
Thanks to Bill Floyd for the Bluegrass photos. I recently held the 2nd Bluegrass dragway Reunion back in October at the old track site. I have some photos from there of your old 64 Ford also. #10 is Jerry Raines 63 Dodge #12 & #13 are not Bluegrass photos. Quote:

Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
Redman tried his best to get me to attend the reunion but, as the first reunion, I had a family vacation planned. Thanks for the updates.

Re: Redman pictures from 70's (edgewater & others)
RockyJ has a very good memory in post #18. Pic #3 is my Wild Mouse 66 Chevy II running SS/N in 1975. The pistons Rocky mentions were Manley's radical single ring design and I was testing for them. I installed them in August along with an engine vacuum system to prevent oil blow by since there were no oil control rings. This was the setup I ran a month later at Indy where I won the class and beat the national record holder by .05 in the final. Edgewater was my favorite track. I won S/S there the first two times a ran there, beating Harold Stout's Ford both times. Later that Summer the car was runner-up to Bob Marshall in the Super Stock meet and went to the semi-finals in the D3 points meet, beating Ron Mancini in the first round.
