Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
that area is mainly out of IHRA normal area, i hope thats the reason anyway. last year at div. races the least we had was 16, and somtimes 28.

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I would be very interested in hearing a live report on today and tonights spectator turn out.
Management was bragging real hard about their new and improved format being the wave of drag racing future. |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I would have liked to go but right now my motor and trans are swinging in the air 3 feet in front of my car.. Just sat down to take a break.

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
They might have had a few more cars if they would let some cars come in on Saturday, but it looks as though first round is tomorrow morning already.
http://www.ihra.com/nitrojam/results...h/schedule.pdf Didn't they make a new rule that you MUST attempt a qualifying run to be put on the ladder? It says tech closes at the end of the final qualifying session, and then it says tech is open at 8:00am tomorrow. |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Looks like low car counts in all classes. Bad sign for IHRA.

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
This car count will probably stay low for IHRA, until they increase their purse or get some contingency. It's not worth making a trip more than 30 miles for a purse of $1500 and about $200 (maybe) in contingency. Local racers near each of these events will be the ones to support IHRA this year, unless a racers just wants to go racing to be going and not worry about any money.
If IHRA takes some of the money they are paying for the "show" and increase the purse to about $10,000 for the winner of each sportsman class and pay a decent amount from the winners purse back, they will get more cars than they know what to do with. Especially if this was a cash purse and you didn't have to wait around on contingency payments. |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
fred you are right the pay out is a little low...but its like any race nhra or ihra you play the sticker game right u can do ok.. bertozzi is not going to go to race if he couldnt make money..puts some stickers on i know i can get a lot more then 200 in cont..
|
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
not that much more. And he is probably one of the few, with all the new requirements. Pretty much have to buy all new cars/parts every 3 years or less and do all the paperwork to get any money. And even then some of them conviently forget to pay you anyway..
|
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I agree with Micheal, and Art most are ther now because they are local. like Patrick and Preston, but Bertozzi and rest this starts a five week straight races Immokolee, Bradenton, Gainesville,Orlando, Gators so its because all races together better chance at money and my motor is further than three feet away but should be together in a couple weeks.

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
i agree it is bad won an ihra pts race in 2004 got 3400 with cont. last year 2400. This year down again i think i can get 2200 total, but u got to think to win about 4 rounds MAYBE 5 not too bad a pay for that many rounds. Mike you won osceola last year that was like 4 rounds and your decaled pretty well so couldnt have been that bad...i hope

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
posted this on DRC copied and pasted
spectator showed to see the nitro cars run, the nitro cars made lots of noise and went fast, people got in the gate for $25, we are at a F I R S T class facility, and you guys don't show up b/c you don't like somebody or you dont agree with this or you dont agree with that. I know I'm an IHRA guy to you folks but believe it or not, I'm a drag racing guy that works for IHRA! I have tracks in my area, NC, that are IHRA sanctioned, if that goes away, I'm screwed! I really wish folks would support Both organizations, we can't survive with one! I still remember that we do this to have something called FUN and we ain't never gonna make a living at it! iceman: Ain't gettin into no keyboard peein contest either! |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Looks like the people came according to dragracecentral. As for car counts. IHRA did raise the purses this year. It was'nt much but it was something. The contingency list is growing everyday.
Fred that was probably one of the stupidest post I've seen in a while: $10,000 to win in each class. LOL My motor and tranny are hanging too. I'm looking at an inch of sleet on the ground this morning wishing I was there. Chip |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
With all the naysayers about new IHRA format, weather risks, and the facility's horrible reputation to overcome, I'd say both the event and format show hope. Yes the turnout is dismal. But South Florida is demographically challenged for this style of event. The "wives" club drove the track into the ground and chased the quality racers away, some vowing never to return. I as well as others were caught unprepared to enter this event...if I'd have known early to mid-summer I would have shifted priorities and participated. I even considered packing everything up last night in case I could get in this morning, with a half-assed prepared car just to show my support.
From what I've heard, everything is running smooth. Because of the light turnout, sportsman racers will gain a 5th time shot this morning....when's the last time NHRA offered that kind of flexibility at a major event? They bring in the clowns no matter what. The bottom line is sponsor and fan money. IHRA made a good call adjusting accordingly. In this economy if the stands stay full, the show can grow again. In fact I'm convinced it creates resiliency against light sportsman participation. Just remember what NHRA did during the economic downturn....THEY JACKED UP ENTRY FEES. |

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
ed i will agree with you on that. first of all if you cant get 3000 at the ihra national then you must be afraid to put a sticker on your car, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IHRA, fred come and race, instead of bad mouthing ihra and the pay...the pay is down in nhra and ihra BUT WE STILL RACE...

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I personally could give a %*&# what the payout is, I just love to race.....yeah it sure is nice to get some of what you invest back, but it wouldn't keep me in the driveway.
One good friend runnered up in TS today, another went to the semi's in QR and my sin-in-law also runnered up in no-box today at his first ever event...:D Heard the stands were packed.....!!!!!! Who all's coming to Immokalee next weekend....????? The present economy has me parked  |

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Ed,
Thanks Fred is missing my point. I'm sure racers would show up. My point is IHRA or NHRA would never do it. With 7 classes it would take close to 400 cars just to pay the winners purse. On a side note about contingency I looked at the divisional list because I don't have enough grade points to run a NHRA race. Currently for me NHRA would pay 1600 IHRA would pay 1000 I have a lot of decals on my car too. Not a lot of difference there. Chip |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
chip actually you hit the nail on the head the payout is not that much different and if it is its a lot less rounds to win an ihra race usually compared to nhra...fred just sayin the pay is not that much different!!!!!!! PLUS usually ihra pts races has 2 races in 2 days cant go wrong !!!!

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Camaro92,
I did'nt even mention about the doubles. I will probably go to a couple N races this year if I can work them in. Why I don't know I guess because I never have. Chip |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I guess y'all can stay home and complain if you want to... All I know is that I got 5 Q runs, and only had to go 5 Rnds to win over $4,000. They're still working hard -- there were more decals paying today than what was listed when I left the house, and I have what is basically a free entry for a $10K/win World Championship tournament.
The facility was gorgeous and worked great all weekend. $.02, |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Michael, don't know how you get $4k out of the deal and would be interested to see the contingency list you use.
Good job to you and r/u JJ also. |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Well I went today, and Beard is dead-on!! Like I said earlier the facility had to overcome, what I'd consider, painful odds. This was a tightly run event, and I've never seen so many spectators there EVER!!!! If IHRA keeps up the pace, this is gonna get better!!!! And as long as NHRA craps on their workers, it ain't gonna get better there anytime soon.
Hats off to that IHRA staff!!!! Never have I seen a bunch of people work so hard at what they love to do. Oh, Mike it was great meeting you finally!!!!! |

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Leaving car/ trailer in FL, driving home in the a.m. I'll take it easy when I get to the bad areas. I drive like a grandma. ;-)
G'night y'all! |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
place was packed and we even had a couple hour break when the sportsmen were done today. Congrats to all the winners and participants, I had a great time.
Gotta get up in a couple hours to go back to the track for an SFI course so I'm out. FYI: The purse was paid as advertised, even with only 9 cars. |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Have you noticed that the most of the "Naysayers" are those who dont race, are NHRA die hards, and ones who didnt bother to go in the first place ! Congrats Michael on your win.
|
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Congrats to all winners and runner ups. Wish I were there.:)
