2009 A Stick Challenge at Indy

Racers, I am gauging interest for another A stick Challenge for Indy. Last year, there was tremendous grass roots support for this. It showed appreciation for what I think are some of the coolest cars in the Stock Class. Info that would be helpful to help me determine if I should pursue it again this year:

1) Who's coming in A stick?

2) Who is interested in kicking in $$, product, a ham sandwich, whatever.

3) Specialty incentives? My thought was..just to stir the pot in a friendly way is to try to get some prizes specifically for anyone that pushes an A stick Blown Mustang over 1.15 at Indy. (that is if any show up?)

I really appreciate the support that ws given by all last year and it was fun for sure. It takes a bit of effort on my part, but I don't mind if we can get some grass roots support. Last yeat Brett McFarland triumphed over the Killer Atkin's Shelby from out East! We had some great cars compete and had some fun. Brett got some prize money and product that I am sure he appreciated and I had some T shirts made up for fun too.

I figure if we are waaiting for NHRA to play this up, it won't happen. Since I will be doing the coordinating, I pick the class that I like the most, so there you go. :)

Please let me know if you are interested in supporting this idea for 2009! You can also e mail me at jimschaechter@earthlink.net.

Larry, will that be Kentucky Clear ?

I think that would be a heck of a runoff, watching A/S having that ! Not much cooler than watching the stick cars give it hell !

Possible. That is why I m gauging interest. We gotta have some cars to make it happen. One thing for sure, It will be a stick class.

If I was a Blown Mustang racer and had money, and no sack, I would just go to AA/S since no other factor is soft enough to compete there that I have seen. That being said, I would hope that the Ford guys that have these cars would not simply dump in a museum or on ebay, but take them out for the BIG GO and get entered early so the rest of the mere mortals that wish to take em on have time to plumb their NOs..:)

Ok, that could rile a few people up:)

Me thinks that if the other mere mortals have enough heads up notice of what class the BLOWN-TANGS are entering that they will either 1 jump to AA or B depending on the car to escape the pounding or 2 stay home as I dont think there is enough nitrous avaliable to help.....lol.

Does it really matter since they're taking the quickest 128 cars anyway?

Would be very cool to watch I'm thinking about taking my car to Indy this year it would be my first time racing there. I'm just not sure I can be fast enough yet,but it would definatley be fun to participate and give it a try.

If you put another stick class together whatever it may be if I can join count me in.

Hey james how come no one tries to put together Top/Stk for Indy?

Re: 2009 A Stick Challenge at Indy

The problem with most of the guys that own original 2008 Cobra Jets are that they either don't have the points meet credits to get into Indy with or the cars are not modified with a race trans and clutch and a full cage to run faster than 9.99. The only car running with a stick to date capable of running with the fast cars is the Ronzello/Wright Cobra Jet and you will have to wait for Indy to see what class they run. I think Brett Hajek put an Automatic in the stick car that wasn't retired and the Calvert car that won Pomona is retired but I could be wrong.

As you can see, already some really nice contingencies in appreciation of the A stick cars! Those of you keeping away from A stick, don't look for the New CobraJets in A stick. So far word on the street is that they have the power to play in AA and that is where they will stay.

If anyone has ideas or wishes to support the carnage in A stick, please let me know. If you want to add to the contingent items, I can help with that. Please e mail me at jimschaechter@earthlink.net

Looking like a big field. Potentially 7 cars as entered! The winner could receive up to $1,000.00 in cash and contingencies. The racer donartions really add up and are appreciated. I plan on making T-shirts gain this year for competitors. I usually have a few extra so if you want more, I can sell for my cost if I know in advance. Please e mail me at jimschaechter@earthlink.net. More updates. The racer donations really add up. Here is another example.

"I would like to get on board as a contingency sponsor of the Indy A/ Stick Challenge. My name is David Daulton and I own a sign/graphics company called Exit 29 Graphics & Design. I do a lot of race car vinyl graphics (drag, oval, etc) & specialize in digitally printed and cut vehicle graphics. I have been into drag racing all of my life and have raced in Super Stock (including Indy) in the past. I will always be a fan and supporter of Stock & Super/ Stock racing so thanks for getting this together.

I would like to offer a FREE competition number, class, driver name package ( a $99. value) to the winner."

Over $1000 bucks to the winner in cash and product! I have made shirts for the competitors and also Class Winner Shirts. These cars are some of the most brutal cars in terms of cost to maintain. I really appreciate the dedication to the class. Being a stick guy, I prefer the sticks of course. Should be a good show. Remember Brett McFarland took it all last year! Who knows this year? Could be anyone!

I will have a limited supply of shirts. I try and order enough to keep the cost down and sell them at my cost. If you are interested, e mail me jimschaechter@earthlink.net or haunt me at the track. I sell out quick so don't wait. When they are gone, they are gone.

Thanks to all of the racers, fans and company supporters of such a cool class! See you at Indy!

Troy - the quality of the video isn't great but I posted a bunch of hte 2007 US Nationals stock class runs on youtube starting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6MIntp1EGc . There are 5-6 videos that are about 5 minutes each.

I am driving to Indy tonight with our Chevy II stocker. I'll have the A/S participant t-shirts with me along with some extras if anyone wants to buy one. If you look for me I am guessing I am going to be waaaayyy out in the back of the sportsman pits.

Tosto is new to the game and has come a long way this year! Helms sacrificed a bullet. He said it locked up after the scales.
Hello spun rod bearing. Good thing he had a spare bullet and his brother Scott to help him make the eliminator.

This is what makes the A stick Challenge so great. So many things have to go right to get a great run out of these cars! Thanks to the many supporters and sponsers that appreciate these racers and their cars!

Jim Waldo takes over 1,000 in cash and prizes and thats not bad at all. Tie that in with a win with at Indy with another of his son's and you have a pretty nice week of racing. Congratulations!

Congratulations Jim Waldo on a well deserved win. A/S might not have had the most cars but the cars that were there were strong and the competition was excellent. The Jason McCormack - Brett McFarland race was the race of the week, they were side by side the entire quarter mile, all out with great reaction times & E.T.s. that race was a highlight on a day that had so many 1000 foot runs.
And thanks to Jim S. for getting this together.
