IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

It looks like IHRA is going to try to have a National event at a brand new "green" never used track !!
I've talked to a couple of racers that live within 40 miles of the track and they had NEVER heard of the track !! It sounds like a BIG gamble to me. Not to mention traffic control and all that goes along with a new track !

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

track is all concrete with concrete pits and has a stocked lake full of bass for any racer who wants to fish,

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

I am not sure I would call anyone a racer that lives within 40 miles of a new dragstrip and doesn't know anything about it. If one was being built that close to me, I would have been there watching it being built.

Yet another negative post. I am sure they will do a lot of tv and radio advertisement on this new event and track. Baton Rouge did and it paid off with a large croud. Now all you racers have to do is go race.THINK POSITIVE ! I will be there working and hope to see a lot of my web friends there. Come by tech and say hello.THIS TRACK OWNER HAS GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND ON THIS NEW STATE OF THE ART FACILITY, So come on out and show your support.THANKS!

GREEN TRACK??? HA!
Check out the OutLaw Fuel altered schedule.
www.ofaa.net

These high 3.90- 4 second 1/8 mile beasts are hitting the track before the IHRA National Event.
I live 160 miles from the track & know about it. Who you called must be too busy/focused with the Dallas rat race they haven't looked around. Why don't you go to the IHRA site & check out the pictures? All my Dallas buddies/customers say: It's a Nice place!! It's location is easy to get to....

2009 Royal Purple OFAA Schedule

April 18th - North Star Dragway Spring Nationals - Denton, TX

May 16th - Dallas Raceway's Fuel Altered Nationals - Crandall, TX

May 30th - North Star Dragway Memorial Day Drags - Denton, TX

June 20th - Penwell Knights Summer Nationals - Odessa, TX

I live about 110 miles from that location and have been there a number of times, checking things out, looking things over. Let me testify, it is outstanding! The potential is huge for this track!

Traffic control will not be a problem, it is on a major highway with plenty of easy entrance access. And since the National is an IHRA staffed event, all experienced help will be on hand.

I am expecting it to be a huge success.

No offense to your "sources", but talk about living under a rock. I've been aware of the track since they broke ground, and I live in NC. That inner-nit thing is wonderful. Big gamble? So which is it... will there be noone there, or will traffic be a problem? Sheesh...

Take a look at the track: http://www.ihra.com/article/4301.html If we didn't have a Pro-Am & Sportsman National at Richmond the same weekend (about 1,000 miles closer), I'd consider the long hike myself.

And for anyone with concerns about a "green" racetrack, perhaps a refresher course is in order: A little known fact (evidently), IHRA's Jim Weinert oversaw the revamping of the track surface at Route 66 several years ago. The IHRA trucks were rolling out the gate nearly at the same time as the NHRA trucks were rolling in to set up for the national event... where virtually every Pro record was re-set.

And, on top of that, IHRA has also added the availability of an extra day of track time: http://www.ihra.com/article/4471.html

I thought everybody knew about it. Looks like a great facility.

I just wish that race was not the same weekend as the Topeka national event. I would like to run both.

That date doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm just a dumb old Okie. What do I know?

Oh wait did everyone pre enter with 3 or more grade points? Oh wait this is IHRA, pay your entry at the gate and go racing!!!!!!

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

Adjer...Have the Outlaw Fuel Altereds ran there BEFORE ? Or will this be their FIRST appearence there ?

And "GREEN" track....it's not only NEW but ALL CONCRETE ! Just like the Motorplex....with it's NARROW GROOVE !! I've seen too many crashes there and one DEATh from getting out bof the groove !
Plus theres a lot more than just the track with having the whole track crew with some knowledge & experince with what's going on ! You can't put a "GREEN" track crew in for your first big race. And I;ve seen nothing in the Dallas paper about the track.......Lot's of LUCK guys !

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

Now what kinda person that drives a fuel altered is scared of anything?!.. I'd guess those fuel altered guys would be licking their chops. And if the track was built correctly it won't take a round or so for it to get rubber enough to fly... Only bad thing about a track like that is its too far for a yankee to drive, well if I wanna keep my job anyways..

Ed Wright 05-06-2009 10:45 AM

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

The IHRA crew will take care of that, and they aren't "green". They come to Tulsa and make it hook as well as any track I've been on.

herbjr 05-06-2009 11:21 AM

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

Technology on track grinding is light years ahead of anything they had even 5 years ago. But 25 years ago come on. They just polished Piedmont this past winter, totally different surface, all concrete and Ricky has been 3.90 there. On a green track.

We, like Beard, have known about the Dallas track for almost a year now and I live in Florida. Wish IHRA would build a track like Dallas somewhere down here! Jim

I have worked with Jim Weinert and I can tell you first hand he is the best in the business when it comes to track preparation, He has designed and built his own track grinders. If he has any doubts whatsoever about the track surface , he will not send a car down the track.

If a track has a narrow groove, it is due to how the track is prepped, not the composition of the racing surface.

There are several all-concrete race tracks around here, including the aforementioned Piedmont Dragway, Farmington Dragway, and Roxboro Dragway, all of which have been redone in the last couple years. All have fantastic surfaces, and to my knowledge were good right out of the box, and that's even without having the national event crew and equipment there.

There are a bunch of people who are happy to have a new national event facility in the neighborhood, and there's ONE dude on a message board proclaiming that no one's ever heard of the track and no one will go, yet there will be traffic problems, and it will be a narrow-grooved death trap. Are you for real???

Instead of trying to generate fictional problems, why not turn the energy into learning more about the facility and its sanctioning body, and find out how you can help.

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

If I remember correctly Charlotte/Zmax is all concrete and built in 6 months. As a matter of fact they bull dozed part of the pit area the week prior to the innagural national event and repaved it. That's cutting it pretty close to your big national event if you ask me and I have to say that was the smoothest, best hooking track my old 10.5 inch tire SS car has ever been down. I bet if this Dallas track was NHRA sanctioned we wouldn't be hearing all of the negativity. Put the key board down, pick up your tools, and go to work on your race car...you've got a national event coming to town!!!

Bimbo Jones 05-06-2009 02:11 PM

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

I think you have mistaken Tracy, right now NHRA is a dirty word and most are tired of they way they have been treated. I am a DFW area bracket racer and we've watch this track being built for the past five years. Hopefully it will breath some badly needed fresh air into the sport. We are still waiting to see what kind of program the track will offer racers. The owner is from a heads-ups back ground and I've heard that he is not big on brackets and may run special programs and TnT nights. We now have five really outstanding tracks in the DFW area. This should bring two national events and two divisional events with in thirty miles of Dallas. Now if our three local eight mile tracks would put on a couple of SS/Stock combo races I might put the 65 wagon back in stock eliminator.

I've known about it for awhile. And they had a race scheduled for last year that never came about.
But some guys I talked to while stopping in Palestine knew nothing about the track. Both said they raced so I took their word.
Maybe Billy Meyer needs to call Jim Weinert !! I'm tired of seeing cars crash!

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

Their schedule shows a BUNCH of Test & Tune days. With some TEXAS True 10.5.,TEXAS Outlaw back half,KOTH,Top Sportsman & ProMod thrown in. Apparently no brackets or Class racing. I know this is subject to change and might not be complete. At least it's a NEW track in a good market and very welcome. I am surprised there hasn't been any local new coverage in the area. But motorsports are in the "back of the bus" unless it's NASCAR in this area. :-(

I live 20 miles from the new track, and I am excited... just wish my car would be ready. I will be there to support even as a fan if thats all I can do. Went by a few weeks ago, and there is A LOT of concrete. Weather has been a mess here, lots of rain... lots of rain! Heard they had to redo some of the starting line, but hopefully all will be ready in time for the show! East TX and the area has lost some tracks in last couple of years, so I am hoping for a good show, and good advertisement. I have heard a little, but not a lot yet. Would love to see them put on something like Baton Rouge did, with that much support. I know Topeka will probably hurt some, but we just need to all work together for the best.

Would love to find a ride, if anyone knows of a car.

Danny W. Look forward to seeing you. Been a while.

So why dont you go talk to the promoter and try to get a gamblers race going or a stock SS combo. Do it 100% payback where he will lose no money and see how it goes. If you need suggestions on a stock ss combo pm me.

The track phone number is (972)474-2600 and I've called often in recent weeks to get updates. Only once was I able to get someone on the phone and they were frustrated with being set back by the uncontrollable weather circumstances. As of yesterday, they now have a recorded message announcing an official open date for test-and-tune on May 14th, 1 week from today, FREE admission to everyone including race cars. I'll be there (weather permitting) trying out my new stocker .. hope most of you local folks can make it.

I would bet few track owners know this fact:
According to Nitro Joe's stats there are 210 SS and 297 stockers that have raced at least once in Div 4 in the last three years. Time for some D 4 Stock/SS combo's or a S/SS tour/series.

Are you determined to be unhappy? The track is obviously 1/4-mile, and its no secret that the upcoming national event is 1/4-mile.

This sounds like the same type of racer that will complain of every race payout, regardless of how it is set. If it were a free race, paying 10k, it wouldn't be enough. Some people you can't make happy. Come race day, THE REAL RACERS will be there.

I find 1/8 mile "racing" BORING.......
There is a decent 1/8 mile track about 20 miles from me and I've only been there twice in six years,
It just doesn't interest me at all..........
Apparently you are the one "unhappy" because I don't agrre with everything you like.:-)

That means you must care at least somewhat, or you couldn't "care less."

You said you could (care less.)

How much less could you care???

Or, did you REALLY mean, "I COULDN'T care less????"

Just asking....

Re: IHRA Nitro Jam Crandall,TEXAS

I think racing the 1/4 mile is boring. Maybe it's because my stocker is slow, maybe it's because I have ADD or maybe it's just because we do so much 1/8th mile around here. I like the fact that you don't beat on your stuff as much in the 1/8th. I love the fact that something is always going on inside the car in the 1/8th mile. I personally believe the 1/8th mile is safer, simply due to lower speeds.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a 1/4 mile race every few months, but I'll take 1/8th mile for Stock Eliminator. Anyone that says 1/8th mile racing is boring simply doesn't have a legit excuse for not liking it.
