New Chrysler Engines for S/S

Just curious who was building one of the new engines for super stock gt. We are looking at one of them really hard to put in Sonny Stancils Old Avenger that Caro drove.

Sonny was telling me the specs at Ennis. Sounds like a killer deal.

YES IT WOULD BE REAL FAST!!! been thinking about it myself... i have marlin bogners old avenger that ive been trying to sell, but lately thinking about it?? don't know if it will fit under the hood very well...... my TQ is close to hood as it is...my car is pretty fast as it is currently i could just imagine what the new combo would do....

Don't get in any rush. Many of the parts are not yet available or even manufactured or even ordered. But the possibility for SS is really nice.

Jim,
I believe the New Generation Hemi's such as the 6.1L are smaller (shorter), lighter and much more potent than that of an LA such as in either of your cars currently. It would be a fun combo if you're willing to sail into uncharted waters so to speak.

2 parts I have not been able to get info on. The 1-3/4 X 4 throttlebody and the 6.2" long rods. The stock rod is around 6.125. Anyone have any info on the rods or throttlebody?

Yes these motors definitely look to be promising. I've heard these things flow over 300 cfm on the intake with no port work. Not to mention how soft the HP rating is for these things. The stock version from 2003 is rated at 345 with less compression and smaller valves. Now they have bigger valves and more compression. Just think how much flow you could get by porting them, and throwing a ported manifold on top. I can't wait see some of you guys build some of these things. I hate to say it, but these motors are part of the new age of Super Stock.

Manley makes a rod for the new Hemis; part #14460-8. It lists as 6.240" long.

For SS most all the parts are available.

I have a Throttle Body for the 360. I think the Hemi T/Bs are available also. The Hemi Heads are in the book with no price or availablity. For ss the stock head might be used. Next time I have a 6.1 or 2009 5.7 down, I will look at the casting # on the head. The T/B is different on the Hemi vs 5.9.

Re: New Chrysler Engines for S/S

Believe the head for both the S/SS Challenger 5.7 and 6.1 is the 369AA head from the 6.1 SRT8 with larger valves. The Manley rod wont work. Has to be 6.200" + or - .025. I don't know of a Mopar rod that is 6.200" so my guess is it is aftermarket or Mopar special built. Since they use Diamond pistons, they might know. The 6.1 SRT-8 crank is a forged piece. Knife edged I am told. I will be picking one up Monday and will know for sure. They will interchange but you have to go with the 6.1 front cover and balancer.

Re: New Chrysler Engines for S/S

Sonny said the throttle body was a 1000 cfm piece. Dang! At 275 hp it will be an easy SS/J car.

Re: New Chrysler Engines for S/S

All the T/B's are 1000 cfm 1.75 X 1.75 Stock cam in the 6.1 is .590 or so

Re: New Chrysler Engines for S/S

One thing about it, a 4 hole throttle body is a lot easier to tech than 30-40 year old carb. Are the valves hollow stem like in the factory 6.1 SRT8? Would be nice if Mopar said they were both sodium filled.

All three engines have unique features that are different from the OE versions. Check the spec's carefully.
