off track damage
My dragster got wrecked in the lanes this weekend. Someone backed onto my nose and front tires. Just the front end and enough so it can't be raced. What are everyones thoughts on responsibility for an off track accident? If I had backed into someones truck or trailer I would pay to repair it. Is a race car different?

Re: off track damage
Think the person that backed into you should ante up for repairs!
Tom concurs! |
Re: off track damage
Someone was backing out of there pit area last nite and ran into my trailer and he was great about it and paid me on the spot!!!! I would do the same thing if i caused any damage to someones race car or rig.

Re: off track damage
Without question, I would feel horrible and pay for it. So did the guy offer to pay, or do you have to break his legs?

Re: off track damage
He made a run for it. Track security caught him at the gate. I'm not naming names until I see if he comes around. If he no help. He get plenty publicity. Got his NHRA and drivers license info, photos and many witnesses including track personell. He said he was directed to back up. The track personell were very helpful.

Re: off track damage
so what happened after they caught him?

Re: off track damage
I had an Idiot from Minnesota hit my car in the lanes at Brainerd. He said the track told him to move. he also said he would stop bye and talk about making it right. He never did, when I saw him next he told me there was no way for me to make him do anything about it. He was right. He knew this because his underage son drove his 4 wheeler into someones trailer the year before.
I hit a guys motorhome by accident in St Louis. I paid him for the repair. There is nothing that can be done, when in the track, it all comes down to class. Hope he is a good guy, if he's an ***, he wont care who you tell. |
Re: off track damage
They took his info. Earlier they said they would have him come to my trailer and make it right. The track took it more seriously than I expected. They want to be kept informed. They inferred having his NHRA info made a difference.

Re: off track damage
That shows no class at all, sorry about your car.....things happen all the time, we all screw up now and then, the guy should just "man up" and take care of the issue.

Re: off track damage
Sorry about your car, My story-
At a bracket race at HRP backin 02, I had this kid driving his girlfriends grandfathers car (did ya'll get that?) that ran into my car, pretty much totalled it out. I fought with his insurance company for 3 weeks, found out the kid was lying and then they paid me for the damages. He said it was my fault. Got the car fixed and still racing it. The day after he hit my car, I broke my leg working on my trailer. Was not a good weekend. so I suggest to find out his insurance co and go for it. |
Re: off track damage
A few years ago at Atco, someone backed into the passenger rear 1/4 panel of my Buick as he was backing out to go to staging, bill for repair was over 2000. The gentlemen made good for it, I would hope most would do the right thing.

Re: off track damage
I'm surprised the track is getting involved. At a divisional a good 5 years + ago, someone backed their trailer into our trailer at night. Put a hole in the side of our trailer, and broke their little american flag off of theirs. People witnessed it and told us who did it. We took their flag over to them, they admitted it, said they would make good on it. Next day, they denied hitting our trailer, track didn't care, even with witnesses, AND then their team got best appearing crew for the race.

Re: off track damage
A few years ago at Atco some moron super streeter's 66 Chevelle came flying out of her trailer and ran into a rental car in our pit.
The girl was pretty upset and immediately offered to take care of everything. I forget her name. |

Re: off track damage
I know of two incidents within the last three weeks of race cars being hit while parked beside their trailers in the pits. Because the accidents happened on private property the police had no jurisdiction. It appears to me a person needs to collect on damages before the other party leaves the track. As a last resort, prior to bodily harm, you might at least accept a check which if bad might leave some legal recourse. It is sad there are people who will not accept responsibility for their actions.

Re: off track damage
Phone number was not legible [by track officials] I got it now. Will call his business in the AM. Who knows he might be a great guy.

Re: off track damage
Sometimes you meet the nicest people after a mishap.
The first time our Camaro was at the track. Some guy backed out of staging and demolished the entire front end. Luckily it was still in primer, but really squished. The Monday after the race UPS pulled up with boxes and boxes of new parts to repair it. Scot and I have been good friends ever since. I hope your mishap turns out OK, but if the guy won't own up to his responsibility, remember, you can sue him. Private property or not, you have legal recourse. |
Re: off track damage
Don't let it go. Nice guy's finish last.

Re: off track damage
This isn't an off track car damage incident, but has anyone specifically another racer/crew member had any experience with getting injured by another drivers car or tow vehicle while in the parks facility?
I saw this case http://www.in.gov/judiciary/opinions...2140701nhv.pdf , but I'm sure it's a case by case matter. |
Re: off track damage
Interesting read. Thanks, kinda what I thought. Not what my daddy taught me though.
I got hit by the corner of a trailer while talking to someone at the registration booth. the person I was talking to didn't say anything then wham, like getting hit by a pro lineman. My fault for not paying attention the driver felt really bad. I told him forget it my fault. Boy was I sore the next day. Lucky . |

And now - too bad for you - your parents are our friends! Like Shelly & Ed said "good friends from mishaps" |
Re: off track damage
I met with the guy, everything is now good. He paid for everything I asked for and we shook hands. Now I consider him a new friend. Witnesses did say he was directed by a yelling official to back up and go around to another lane. He was watching his class going around the corner and got shook-up. Anyway it's over and done with. Thanks everyone for your support.

Re: off track damage
Good to hear he was a stand up guy and did the wright thing. Everyone including myself expected the opposite, and that is unfortunate.

Re: off track damage
That is great news! Human kindness prevails.
Cheers |
Re: off track damage
