Carolina Class Racers Association
Attn Racers, Tracy Robbins and myself have talked at lengths about the Stock Super Stock Series in the Carolinas and I have decided to do something that was done years ago it was just called SCRA back then. We are forming the Carolina Class Racers Assoc. to help promote class racing in the State of NC. We are not looking for any membership dues fees or any other BS just an orgianization that can do what is best to support class racing. We will have a 10 race schedule for 2009 with a racers claiming 6 of the possible 10 races. If you would like to be a part of the CCRA please respond with your ideas as we are here to listen. We will have a lunch in January at The Cutting Board in Burlington NC on a Saturday at noon. Not sure on the date as of yet as I wll get back to you on that. It will be RSVP. I hope this is good news to most as we have a few sponsors lined up for a points fund and are looking for more.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
That sounds great Herb! I think the Association needs to pick a rule book and stick with it. Not just as they see fit as some organizations do.
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
When you say pick a rule book I'm not sure I understand. We have run quite a few combos with no problem. There are no heads up runs so you can your IHRA or NHRA combo.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Sounds like a great idea - definately don't charge a fee, get some jazzy decals, create a myspace page and an email list - maybe some kind of emailed news letter every so often....basically doing all this creates a network if you will, and you can better get the word out about your races. All the stuff you've probably already came up with :D
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Actually I was going to nominate you for all of the above.
Herb Jr |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Herb, If you need me for anything (I think) just let me know .I would like to race in this also if possible .That would also include Jr. This looks to be a great idea . Count me in .
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
I forgot . I have IHRA classification books also .
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
This idea has been thrown around for the last couple of years as we sit around during rain delays at national and divisional races. Now it's time to see if everyone that talks about it is willing to participate...please give us ideas and let us know if you all think it is something that would help keep class racing in this region alive and well.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Count me in...Hey are we running these as combos or stock class and super stock class .. just an idea
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
We need more track operators like Herb Jr. all over the USA (and Canada).
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
To start with Combo's you have to crawl before you walk. We want to have the meeting to throw some ideas up and go from there.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
My cars are in.
Maybe Danny and I can talk Kinston & Coastal Plains to join. Fayetteville had a great turnout the other week. How many tracks do you think you need? As always, we appreciate what you guys are doing. Doyle |

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Sounds like a winner to me. May have to throw a motor in my ex Jeff Bordeaux Camaro. The points series should bring the cars out. The 6 race claim is a good idea as well. Keep the no heads up part to ease track oversight and keep all interests happy. Good job guys, this is what the racers need.
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Class racing and no heads up?
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Almost sounds like bracket racing Huh. I keep forgetting though Class racers don't braket race.LOL
Herb wish ya'll could've done this a few years ago. Chip |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
i love the sound of the idea count me and dad in...you could run a series type maybe run 3 or 4 at piedmont and 1 or 2 other tracks and then have like a showdown or something at the end of the season like at a big dog race or something...try and get the fans in it too...seemed like they like us feeling in at those races..well they liked the big wheel standing cars...great job to herb and tracy on this... im still a young racer going on th my 3rd year and don;t really have many opinions but this is good for our sport and our local IHRA/NHRA and traveling racers...
...herb when does TNT stop this winter need to make a few laps in the SS car for susp. adjustments..thanks, Brandon |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Now that is cool Beard!!! Nice work and quick too.
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
This does mean that every racer must take 1 dive against me in these races. Gotta take it easy on the class virgin

Dang it Beard! You beat me to it.
Figured since I was almost finished I would go ahead and throw it up here. I went a much more simple route than you did though... |

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Got bored and threw together another one. Not trying to steal any work from Beard here, just need some practice and critique.
Not as "Jazzy", more on the simple side. Even if Beard does the stickers, I would love to get involved by doing some shirts. I would be willing to do small runs as to not have too much overstock and do them close to cost. Herb or Tracy, Do you know the exact date on the meeting? http://www.nortonemb.com/customers/ccra.gif |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Lee, I got my new firejacket today. I'll bring it with me to the $20K Footbrake at Piedmont this weekend so that you can do my Duck Tape logo embroidery for me again. How's your business card design coming together?
Back on topic... I think having a cohesive series, schedule, and points chase could build quite well off of the existing combos that Tracy, Herb, and others have been doing on their own. I think it'd be a win-win for everyone. Might want to check with Gump or Beaver and see if it would make sense to have a Top Stock show along with CCRA events. I second Herb's nomination of Angela as Official Photographer. Lee and I both can probably help with website stuff. |

I agree that this could be a win-win for everyone if it comes together well. Top-Stock could be a great show to bring in spectators. Put Beard on the graphics and sticker designs, and I'll code up a site and keep it updated. What would be cool to see is a combo race that could pay $5,000 or in that range to win. I know Atco had the $10,000 combo race, and I feel like this sort of race could be pulled off in this area if planned and promoted correctly. |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Hey
How 'bout a Big Payout Stock Elim. North vs South ??????? Like a $10,000 race like David Ley did at Atco. You can do the same for Super Stock. I was talking with Pat Joffrion about this type of race. Maybe at the end of October, just have to pick a halfway point from Maine to Georgia. Or you can have 2 races, 1 at a North track & 1 at a South track.... Anybody like this kind of idea????? Maybe Herb Jr. can put out a poll question to see if there's any interest in it. Just my 2 cents Pistol Pete Dutko 1374 J/SA |
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Meeting date is 2nd Saturday in January you need to RSVP as I have no clue how big of a room to get. The Cutting Board is a nice place where you can eat about anything ,burger, chicken or steak related. My email is herb@piedmontdragway.com so please email ifyou can come and the number of people. They can hold 275 or as small as 8, I just want to reserve the right amount of space.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
I have to agree w/ Michael, keep in mind this is the very initial stages of putting this deal together and we have to crawl before we walk. It will take at least a season or two to do everything we would like, but keep the ideas coming, actually, make note of them and bring them to the meeting! The key to this will be supporting the tracks and showing up at the events so we bring value to them.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
I've not been back in stock racing but a couple of years, and I can't afford to take off work 3 or 4 days in a row to go to the divisional or a week for a national. This idea sounds great. I really appreciate what Tracey has been doing with Roxboro and their combo races, and Herb as well with Piedmont. I'll support this idea all I can, and look forward to the opportunity to race. Now if I can just get this d*** car to run better...

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Bob, 2 door is the car of choice, 4 doors are ok, but WAGONS ARE COOL.
|
Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Wagons have 4-doors + a hatch. We could use the 4-door cars to go to lunch ;;;;;lol { : >)

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association
Herb, ill try and hit as many as my work will allow. Its hard since were open every Sat to get someone to cover for the div and nat's that i go to as it is. But if any are run on sunday ill be there. Also are you going to allow s/ss cars to come and test this winter like you did last year? Were gonna try and have the car ready in January and would like to test before the Rockingham Div. Thanks.
