Greg's fuel did not pass after the first round of class. They told him that he was marginal on the first two q passes. He asked them why he was not told and they just gave him a blank stare. |

Every time I have gone through fuel check this year with C-12 they give me the pucker faced look. |
Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
The DQ on the one qualifying sheet was a tower clerical error. He passed fuel check on the initial qualifying runs, had an issue in the class run.

Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
We have had some very slight issues with C-12. Neither car has been tossed, but we have been told it read marginal. Normally, adding some fresh C-12 resolves the issue. Each time it has happened we've been told that it has gone somewhat "stale" from being exposed to the atmosphere (in a vented fuel cell between races mostly). We now usually drain both cells down to about what we need to load the cars and unload them later. Then we just add fresh C-12 before time trials. I guess C-12 is somewhat sensitive. But I like the results I get with it, so long as I don't have worse issues, or need more octane, we'll stick with it.

Has anyone ever smelled bad gas?

Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
We've had several "situations" where our fuel didn't check. We run C-12. In each deal, I questioned the validity of the "checking" process. In one incident, 2 cars, same fuel, same jug, one is good, one wasn't. In the one that didn't check, after a confrontation, we took the jug for checking. We were told that the fuel in the jug was OK. We were told to drain the fuel in the car, "flush" the system, then refuel the car with the fuel out of the jug. We proceeded to do nothing. In fact I sat at the trailer and had a "cold one". About an hour later, we took the car back to fuel check, and it passed with flying colors!! On other "failures" I've been given all kinds of scenarios. Fuel is old, fuel left in jugs, fuel left in trailer, fuel left in car, etc,!!!! This year I asked the tech guys to check some fuel that had been IN THE FUEL CELL of one car that hadn't been run for 14 months. It checked good!!! So much for theories!!

Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
With regard to the people who have already replied to this thread: What engines do you guys run? I know the C-11 is better than C-12 for our small block (more power on dyno), and it burns cleaner. Never have had a problem with C-11, and we start the year with what's left in the trailer. It usually sits awhile and goes through the winter outside.

Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
Byron, Dad and I all run Sunoco purple. I only remember 1 time we had an issue and that was Dad at E'town this year........but Byron and I both passed!!! Same fuel, same drum! You figure that one out???? They blamed it on the car???

Re: Super Stock DQ in Vegas
One of devices used by NHRA is very sensitive. If the device is not cleaned properly for the next check, it can make the next fuel check fail. Also, it is powered by 9V batteries and they need to be replaced frequently.
