who's gonna be # 1

Just wondering who's gonna be #1 in points in super stock, Defrank or Decker. What opinions are out there.

Not a betting man, but I like to see new names come into the game.

Watch the guy from Buffalo -- he showed 'em in Reynolds -- could be tough on the West Coast mini-tour....

PS-- For those who are not aware of it -- Leber is from Buffalo .

Leber has to win the Vegas points race to go ahead of Ricky.

You say that like he can't do it.....if anyone can pull it off, it will be him! Just my $.02

Re: who's gonna be # 1

So if Leber and Defrank are in Vegas then it could be a real shoot out. Then it could coome down to Pomona, since they both have races left that they could claim. Am I right or just on something?

Re: who's gonna be # 1

The odds of anyone doing better than DeFrank at Pomona are not good. It's pretty common for him to be running under the lights there.

Vagas is going to be real interesting. In stock Toby can pass Lee and Lee can only block, being he's out of races.Billy is tough in a pressure situation.Good luck to all and let the best men win.

This is GREAT!!!!!!!!!! now everyone is getting into it. That's what makes it exciting to keep up with right now. And they think just the pros have a shoot out going.

Re: who's gonna be # 1

Leber has to win the Vegas divisional - DeFrank has 3 events to try to get to 5th round. I want the Div 3 guy to win it but think DeFrank has a good shot at it.

I am not big on div-7 cars but DeFrank is tough in his owe backyard.i think he has too be the favorite.

Re: who's gonna be # 1

DeFrank's record at Pomona is pretty good so I would have a hard time bettin against him. Also Vegas is usually a very tough field to get through. They all have had outstanding years and it should be great to watch. !!

Re: who's gonna be # 1

ok, so B Leber lost in the first round in vegas and J Defrank in the third-I don't see Decker on the first round sheet at DRC, can anyone help me figure out where the points standings are now, heading into Pomona in 2 weeks??

Ron Brown 11-03-2008 11:55 AM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

Scott, Decker wasn't at Vegas, that's why you didn't see him on the sheet. I'm wondering the samething you are as to how the points stand after this past weekend. It looks like NHRA site has them posted already but I'm not sure.

Each driver in the remaining NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories is eligible to compete for points at eight Divisional and six National events. When a driver has competed in those eight Divisional and six National events, or the season ends at the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, their best five Divisional and best three National finishes will constitute the driver's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Championship points total.

Ron Brown 11-03-2008 12:10 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

So Leber has one divisional left to claim, Defranke has Pomona leeft to claim. Is this right ?

stage1scott 11-03-2008 12:59 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

I dunno-my rulebook says one thing, but the points page on the NHRA website seems to indicate another, that's why I can never keep up. I see NO national events listed for J Defrank on his points tally on line, yet he won Phoenix early in the year, and the rule book says you get to claim participation in 6 national events. OTOH, it appears they both are eligible for Pomona, and if what I read right now is correct, whoever goes the furthest there will determine it. yes? no? anyone else? and I like thinking about these guys way better than the pros anyhow!

Re: who's gonna be # 1

Decker is all used up for points so he can only sit back and wait. DeFrank is bettering a 62 @ the divional and national meaning he has win 4 rounds before he starts counting. DeFrank needs 2 rounds of points to lock up the championship. Leber needs to win the Vegas divisional to go ahead of Decker by 1 point.

Ron Brown 11-03-2008 01:32 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

thanks Tim, this point thing is something I don't know how to keep up with. But from Div. 3 and a friend of the Decker gang I just was trying to keep up, also wanted this post to get people to get involved with the sportsman side of NHRA. I mean the pros aren't the only ones with a points battle going.

Tim-thanks for trying to help enthusiast/fans to try and understand-so-RIGHT NOW J DeFrank needs to win 4 rounds next weekend at vegas divisional, BEFORE he starts gaining more points towards the c/ship-or-the 2 rounds he won this past weekend count towards that? AND B Leber needs to win the vegas divisional next week to gain ground, BUT they both can also gainpoints in Pomona?? again, THANKS and please excuse my ignorance of how this works.

Re: who's gonna be # 1

lebers last chance to gain points is the vegas div and he has to win to gain the championship defrank coulda shut him out by winning 5th round but failed to do so. all i got to say is look out for the s10

tim worner 11-03-2008 05:22 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

Last weekend DeFrank only tallied 61 points which was not enough to go with this years best to date. So now he has to win 4 rounds at the points race to start counting if he doesn't do it this weekend @ Vegas then he has his last chance @ Pamona. He is 12 points out which means he has to get 2 rounds of points to win. If I remember correctly one year he had to win Pamona to get the championship and lost to Jeff Taylor in the final which allowed Dan Fletcher to win. But I also think he won Pamona one time to get the championship. Don't forget there are some of the best out there to get through.Bertozzi--Fletcher--Biondo--Leber--we even have some Wolf Pack member there. Good luck to all.

See this is just as exciting to me as the pros battle going on. Just wonder how many people will be watching this battle for a title?

Well here they go. The last two shots at the number one slot, so lets get opinions on how it's going to play out. Vegas and Pomona is all that's left and who's it going to be?

heck, it is way more exciting than the pros to me...I mostly only go on days stock/super stock runs, rarely attend on sunday for the finals anymore. I am going to try and get out to meet Jack M at pomona, but will likely go thurs morning for qualifying. I guess this weekend could determine the s/s world champ, or it could be in Pomona-Tim-thanks again for the above explanations, helped me to understand where each is and why.

In stock it looks like Lee-D/SA has George Barr-G/SA and Toby-G/SA has Eric Waldo-C/S.I think that they could meet in the 3rd round. It's goona be good.

Yes he is. He needs a real good finish in both the Div and Nat'l events. Both Toby and Jimmy are very capable.

With a new rear tire and the fall colors, even the PA turnpike was enjoyable! Canton OH area was nice, training went well. Took alternate roads home. Very enjoyable!

Defrank has to win 5 rounds at pomona to pass decker.

Ron Brown 11-10-2008 05:50 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

Well isn't this getting interesting. 5 rounds can be hard to do even if Defranke is at his "home" track, This isn't wishing any bad luck on Jimmy, but then we will just have to watch it unfold.

Ron Brown 11-10-2008 10:35 PM

Re: who's gonna be # 1

OK WHAT'S THE DEAL ?? Leber is out of the running and Jimmy has one last shot, and now everyone has gone quite. I really thought that everyone would jump in with their 2 cents after Vegas but I guess if your man is out then nothing to say. Defranke support is just going to bite their nails and wait till this week-end (I guess). COME ON GUYS lets stir it up like the media does the pros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my seat HANG ON RICKY DECKER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
