Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
sarcasm...just one of the many services we offer...
Does anyone know what combination that car has?? maybe it will make a debut at the Dutch. |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
My guess is it had the same engine that was run in Denver; the new 392 HEMI. That is not an engine offered in the new Drag-Pack Challenger. It will be limited to 5.9L Magnum, 5.7L & 6.1L Hemi any with auto trans or 6-speed trans.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Er, I don't think that's a "STOCKER," either....
Maybe a Super Stocker... |

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
If that car is a Stocker, it needs to be in the Classification Guide.
It's not. Where are the horsepower numbers going to come from that will determine the NHRA factors that determine class? For example, the 360 Magnum motor was never offered in a passenger car, and a new one hasn't been built for years. All you can get are crate motors, which are rebuilt engines. I'm not sure where the horsepower numbers on crate motors come from. They may not be run on a dyno according to the SAE standdard that is used for legitimate (conventional) new cars. Then again, they may.. There are several hoops to jump through if these cars are to be run in Stock Eliminator, it seems to me. There are no numbers in the Classification Guide for ANY 2008 Dodges, much less 2009. If they want to run these things at Pomona in February, somebody had better get busy, it looks like to me... I sincerely hope they do; it would be really interesting!!! |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
This car is a 2008 Challenger and the chassis was built to NHRA Stock Eliminator specs. It is the same car driven by Judy Lilly in Denver and is a development car for Mopar. The Drag Pak Challengers are 2009's and can be ordered begining October 17th.(last Friday). Available engines in the Drag Pak cars are 5.7L, 5.9L and 6.1L with stick or auto trans. The Challenger driven at Milan by Jeg has a 392 Crate Hemi with an auto trans and went 10.20 @ 129.29. AutoWeek covered the testing which was cut short due to rain and I would expect magazine coverage by AutoWeek in the very near future.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
I'd bet that if Chrysler wants it in the guide it will be in the guide when they want it. They will clear the hoops in a single bound. Now if it was one of us wanting a change, that would be different.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
MPR,
Thanks for all that good information, I appreciate it. I am curious about two items you reported on. 1. If that car was built ro Stock Eliminator specs, where did the afternarket hood scoop come from, or do ALL the 2008 Challengers have hood scoops like that? 2. What version of a 5.9 (360 Magnum) motor do you think they will be able to install, assuming they run that motor, since it hasn't been manufactured in a while, and was never in a passenger car??? Do you think they'll just stick a crate 5.9 motor in it and use the crate HP rating? I don't know what else they could do.... I guess they could stick in a pickup truck 5.9 of the type that was being installed in trucks the year they quit making it. I don't remember when that was, but I think it was a few years back. I believe it was replaced by the OHC 4.7. Additionally (and, this is nit-picking, I realize), all the crate motos are overbored .030", so they're not 5.9's any more; they are actually 6.0's.... nomenclature-wise. Help!!! |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
The hood scoop as well as several other items are avaiable on the Drag Pak Challenger only and are not being installed on the show room car. The Drag Pak Challenger is a special version being produced with items allowing the car to compete in NHRA Stock classes. I know the NHRA is in the approval stages with Mopar but I'm not in the loop as to how far along they are or when the car will be listed in the Classification Guide. As far as the motor(s) are concerned, I don't know much about them. I can't tell you if the 5.7L is a crate motor or production unit. My suggestion for anyone interested in the Drag Pak Challenger is to contact the're Dodge Dealer and look over the Order Forms and see what options are available. The ordering info was sent to Dodge Dealers last friday.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
,MPR,
Thanks again for posting that info. I'd be surprised if NHRA lets them run that hood scoop in Stock, but, money talks.... you know the rest. Maybe I'll waltz on over to my local Dodge dealer to see what they have by way of ordering information RE the 360 Magnum motor, since it's on its way to becoming a museum piece. A weird situation, with that particular motor. |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Bill,
The car as shown with Jeg driving it is what will be on the track.Think 68 Hemi car,but stock eliminator legal. It's a special race only package car. |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Doesn't anybody even look at their rule book anymore? (I said "anybody", not "everybody".) ;):p
On the first page of the NHRA Stock class section is this: "OEM may apply for inclusion of any special production runs into the Official NHRA Stock Car Classification Guide. Special run must include a minimum of 50 units of an already accepted body style, need not be showroom available. Applications evaluated on an individual basis. Acceptance will not imply precedent." This may mean that the OEM Challenger may be included in 2009, but specs and ratings need to be sorted out for those also. |

I think Bill is just bored and nit-picking the rule book and classification guides. |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Well, I already admittied to nit-picking, if you read my earlier posts.... HOWEVER, I am often told that I cannot put a 340 (for Stock Eliminator) in my '72 Valiant 4-door since it's NOT IN THE CLASSIFICATION GUIDE, although any small block engine could be ordered in any chassis in 1972, according to three reference books I have.:.
These ersatz "Challengers" aren't in there, either... But, I hope they are soon; I want badly, to see them run!!! RE: "Applications evaluated on an individual basis. Acceptance will not imply precedent." Translation: "Just because we do it for THEM doesn't mean we'll do it for YOU...." LOL! |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Obviously these cars and drivetrains will make it to the class guide. They're on my order form with correct part numbers.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Very cool but does it ever look bulky with 15" wheels.
Any idea what the weight is? I've seen a road test on a street version where it was a whopping 4100 lbs. I think with a 360 it would probably fit down to U/SA. :) |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
800 # weight reduction.
Polycarbonate windows and light-weight regulators Composite hood Manual rack & pinion light-weight front-end & bumper attachment Light-weight front disk brakes HVAC removed Wiper assembly removed No sound deadner or sealer No back seat Inside trunk release cable Altered wheelbase and engine location Fixed rear axle Performance engine assembly Switch panel Comes with roller wheels / tires / rear-end SFI bellhousing on m/t cars |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Jeff,
Thanks for the information. Any idea of what the "sticker" price will be for one of these? |

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
What does roller rear end mean? no axles or ring& pinion?
|
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
The cars will weigh 3100 with the two hemi engines, and 3200 with the 360. The cars are through dealer parts departments and will be billed to the dealer. That is a new twist.

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
Who gets the commision, parts guy or salesman ?
|
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
The paper work i recieved from my dealer says " At minimum, drag pak vehicle kit require rear axle, rear suspension, driveline safty equipment, wiring, fuel cell, safty cage/ roll bars, fire system, safety harness and other additions to be considered competition ready" so I assume the cars are not rollers.. Any one no for sure?

Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
For the sake of having the info, I went to the parts dept. of Daytona Dodge and they sent me up front! The owner wasn't there but they took my contact info. I just got an email saying:
"He said we do not have any of the information that you requeted. You can go to mopar.com or allpar.com and they should/might have the information you are seeking." Oh well. Hmmm, at 3,200 lbs with a 360, it would fit H, I and J crate motor in IHRA using my current 360/320hp factor Commando engine!:) lol Well, it's fun to dream. |
Re: Jeg jr. driving a MOPAR STOCKER
My assumption is roller means an 8 1/4 rear with steel wheels and laying around take-off tires.
