AHFS One more Time
When if ever is it triggered at Divisionals?
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
1.40 under
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
-1.40 under at sea level tracks only or corrected to sea level at altitude tracks or both?
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
I thought this year it was any run under -1.15 'flagged' your combo---------any run -1.40 or better is ATUOMATIC Hp on Monday.
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
Runs at corrected or factored tracks do not count towards the AHFS.

http://www.nhra.com/apcm/APCMviewer_sp.asp?a=25919
Also, the search engine onthe NHRa web seems to have improved. If you type in AHFS, there are 3 pages of AHFS articles going back to 2005 if you are intersted in the history. |
Re: AHFS One more Time
Supposedly,
-1.40 at sea level and -1.40 corrected to sea level at altitude tracks. |
Re: AHFS One more Time
This is the MAJOR ISSUE with AHFS---not even the drivers are in agreement on how it actually works!!!
Hopefully the Sportsman Council can corrected this flawed system so more and more combos don't end up scrapped!!! |
Re: AHFS One more Time
The way it was explained to me, 1.15 under triggers an automatic review, except at factored tracks, and that applies at Division races this year as well as National events. And 1.4 under, anywhere except factored tracks, at any time is an automatic adjustment. At least, that's what I was told the last time I saw a change, and asked for a clarification.

That is correct. And it's been that way for years. |
Re: AHFS One more Time
1.15 under at National Events and 1.40 under at Division Events and Openers
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
There are a couple of things proposed on the system already, and major changes (we hope) that will be proposed and accepted.
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
Jeff,
Can you confirm what it is today ? Is it 1.40 under at Sea Level and what about factored tracks ? How does it effect AHFS at factored tracks ? What is it at Nationals & Div /Opens ? Racers would like to know what Triggers the AHFS.......... Thanks in advance, Dave |
Re: AHFS One more Time
Jeff,
Rich wants to know what the ahfs deal is today. Tell us about the proposed changes. I'm sure many racers want to know about these changes before they are implemented. Aren't you guys supposed to be keeping the racers in the loop? |
Re: AHFS One more Time
Yes as a matter of fact, I do want to know...
Rich |
Re: AHFS One more Time
I guess no-one has any answers to these simple questions on how the system works ? Why is this so secret, hopefully our reps will get a set of rules on how, when and where the AHFS
works /counts ??? We all seem to be in the dark .............. thanks, Dave |
Re: AHFS One more Time
There is a Division web site that has contact info for the Tech Dept. I emailed the Div. 3 Tech dept and got a response back right away. Doesn't mean something won't change, but it might be helpful to ask the tech person from your Division to get an official and current response.
Here is Ritch Bower's response (Div. 3 NHRA Tech) "Jim, I also asked Jay and at divisional and National Open races only runs of -1.40 or more are looked at. Again, -1.15 at national events are looked at. It is also stated the same in our NHRA policy and procedure guide. Ritch" |
Re: AHFS One more Time
anyone know if it is still two hits or one that triggers ??
two in each 1/2 season or two all year ?? jack just curious... not planning on it ! |
Re: AHFS One more Time
Correct me if I'm wrong here---BUT, all runs (Opens, Divisionals, and Nationals) count towards your class/combo AVERAGE though??????
|
Re: AHFS One more Time
Again: when is the ahfs triggered at a divisional?
1. -1.40 under at SEA LEVEL tracks only? 2. -1.40 under corrected to sea level at FACTORED tracks? 3. -1.40 under SEA LEVEL Index period with no correcting? |
Re: AHFS One more Time
My understanding ... 1.40 under at divisional or open, automatic HP, 1.15 under at Nationals, twice by the same engine or combo in first half of season or second half of season triggers review. (2 reviews per year) All runs count toward average at Nationals, none are counted at opens and divisionals for average. As far as sea level versus altitude factored tracks, there will be some combos hit if they count altitude tracks. Look at some of the qualifying.

Re: AHFS One more Time
Can the AHFS be triggered at a FACTORED divisional TRACK?
1. -1.40 under at SEA LEVEL tracks only? 2. -1.40 under corrected to sea level at FACTORED tracks? 3. -1.40 under SEA LEVEL Index period with no correcting? Is the answer TOP SECRET or something? Does anyone know? Bob MULRY do you know? |
Re: AHFS One more Time
The answer is yes. But it is nearly impossible. I think the factor at the Idaho track is something like.380 and Vegas is something like .210. A racer would have to run as fast as 1.78 under at Idaho and 1.61 under at Vegas before an automatic hit would be handed out. The 1.15 under part of the rule only applies to national events.

Re: AHFS One more Time
Hi Bruce,
Are you refering to the correction factor back to sea level for each particular track or some other factor? I don't see any other factors listed except the one below from the NHRA site. NHRA ALTITUDE CORRECTION FACTORS Stock & Super Stock Convert to Sea Level Track Name Alt ET MPH Boise, ID 2700 .9679 1.0339 This was copied from the NHRA site. Just trying to understand the AHFS. It appears the AHFS has a few gray areas for interpretation. |
Re: AHFS One more Time
Hi Rich,
Let me take a shot at it. Lets decide to take the generator out of the back of your race car and step all the way down on the gas pedal to go fast.......... You take your car, a SS/HA with a10.90 sea level index and you go to a LODRS at Las Vegas and run a 9.40 on your ET slip which would be a corrected back to a Sea Level run of 9.171. Three things would happen first you would get the SS/HA record at a 9.171, second you would get a 3.25% horsepower increase for running a 9.40 on and 10.90 index which is 1.50 under the sea level index and last but not least there would be people looking to kick your butt for more horsepower on the 327. Later in the year, after all the smoke clears from your new record, you go to decide to go to a LODRS race at Denver and run a 9.80 on your ET slip, which is .1.10 under the sea level index. Two things would happen, first you would reset your old record of a 9.171 with a new record of a 9.090, second you would NOT get a 3.25% horsepower increase because the run was only 1.10 under the sea level index and not 1.40 under. This also applies to National events, which have an Altitude Correction, with regards to having to run more then 1.40 under the sea level index to get a 3.25% horsepower increase. So take out that generator and have some fun, Bob |
