NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
With the rules changes regarding the location of buttons, blinders, windshield tape, etc. and beginning teardowns at Div. races, it appears that we are returning to racing in stock the way it was orginally intended. I love it. True drivers such as Toby Lang, Sammy Pizzolato, etc. are re-emerging as winners. It's either a new day or the old days depending on how you look at it. Being from the old school it's the way that I learned to race.

Stockers are (once again) way cool!

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
yes, this rule has made a big difference. Lots of "new" winners this year in stock, Lang, Biondo, Strickland, big difference.

I would like to see 5-6-7 chevys being able to run in stock again like the old days.

Returning To Roots=no 2-steps,blinders Or Buttons In The Car Period !!!
Richard good post but... are you saying Toby Lang WAS NOT using a blinder & 2-step (with a button on the brake pedal) when he won Stock @ both Pomona & Phoenix this year??

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
I wasn't there naturally so I don't know except as I understand blinders aren't premitted. I also don't think that buttons on the brake pedal are as effective as on the steering wheel, etc. Futhermore "if" blinders cannot be used then I don't think that buttons of any kind are as effective.
Yes, I agree that the Lang's, Biondo's, Strickland's will always be winners. I just beleive that we are seeing some new winners with the new rules. My opinion is that we are not seeing the killer lights that we have seen before across the board. Peter Biondo could be the exception though, he's still very tough. |
Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
No blinder and no 2 step, foot brake only

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Hey Richard, you had a pretty good outing yourself, congrats on the Q-final finish. I bet your having fun again. I was there sun. talked to Rodney a lil but you were in your zone in the car so I didnt bother you. I hope to be back at Houston see ya there. Heres to all the old school guys.

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Tony is correct. I have never used a button or a two-step. Although I did try to use one at the test and tune at Tucson the week after they outlawed deep staging. It wasn't working too bad until I rolled the beams on the third qualifying pass. I turned the two-step off after that and never turned it on again.
I wish we would have did away with two-steps altogether. They aren't needed exept for stick cars. -Toby |
Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Thanks, Bob
I was wondering today where you had been. I hate that I missed you in Dallas and I hate even more that you didn't have your car. I hope that the converter is working out for you. I will try to make Houston but Rodney's little girl is having a dance recitial that Sat. and Trevor's wife is graduating. I am trying to talk Rodney into driving back after Friday qualifing and coming back Sat nite. We will see how it goes. Toby, I am glad that you cleared up that question. I was observing that you won regularly before the buttons and are now back on again. I assumed that might be what had changed but I know that we shouldn't assume anything. Anyway congratulations on your wins by doing it the old fashion way, footbrake all the way. I have the button on my brake petal but so far I haven't used it. I also would have been happy if the eliminated two steps on all automatics. |
Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Toby and Jody work hard to go rounds. It isn't a fluke. Wins come and go for most of us, but those guys know how to put the wins together.
If I had half of the work ethic and proper preparation those guys do, I'd be dangerous. I dont think the buttons, etc have much to do with it. The winners will win. The effort we put in dictates how well we do. Jeff |
Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Tony, Toby and Richard,
Can't agree with you guys more, Get rid of the Blinders and Two-steps and lets race..Maybe our Reps. are listening and will push this through to NHRA powers to be ?... Good Luck racing in 2008 to all you guys... * Toby say hi to Mom + Jody ... Dave..1033/stock |
Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
How about we stop bothering NHRA by pushing for all these rule changes, and Just
**%^ing race already. Why can't we just all race the way we like within the rules that we have. NO MORE CHANGES!!!!! If we all get a rule change that we like, how about 1 lb breaks and combine sticks and auto's for more heads up?? I'm sure these guys wont like that change. Maybe the Reps will listen to that. Quote:

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Toby so if I read your post correctly your saying you don't use a 2-step or button but both you and Jody do in fact use blinder's correct??

Re: NHRA stock racing returns to it's roots!
Going by Peter Biondo's comments in Dragster about expecting other people maybe having problems adjusting to the new rules it sounds like he doesn't use them either. Maybe he could come on here and clear that up. Either way he one of the best currently racing.

You'd think that my Volare and Terry Knott's Dart Sport, virtually clones of each other, would react the same. Until this year, the Volare was several hundredths slower in rollout. The Mirada reacts several hundredths slower yet! Even more interesting, my Duster bracket car out-reacts the Volare by a couple hundredths, despite being more than a tenth slower in the 60'.
