Hey New Jersey Racers,
remember when Island opened on the last Sunday in February and E-town opened on the first Sunday in March? Remember when Island used to have a "Winter Meet"?
Oh well, so much for global warming......... |
Re: Hey New Jersey Racers,
I often made a push to make opening day whether it was Island or Etown.
Knowing the air would be really fast and ET and MPH would likely be real good. One year I had to chip ice and shovel snow to get my trailer free. It was totally blocked in. It was so cold the night before I drained the water from my old dragster and put it in plastic jugs. In the morning at Etown it was slush in the jugs when I put it back in. Went the best ET and MPH that car ever ran...…No traction issue whatsoever and it was a good day, the place was loaded with cars as it usually was back then.....15-20 years ago.... |

Re: Hey New Jersey Racers,
They have mostly stopped using the term " global warming " and now call it " climate change ". So now it covers their theory which ever way the weather is. Hot, cold, dry, wet, snow, no snow...

Re: Hey New Jersey Racers,
One March opening day at Island in the late 80s/early 90s, it was in the mid 30s and we were snowed out before first round. The Mickey Thompson dog bone tread street/strip tires actually weren't too bad in the snow...
In 2002, my wife set the T/SA record in Lloyd MacKay's Buick at the Delmar open in late March. It was flurrying while I was putting the head back on... |

Suffolk/Hampton Raceway used to close the weekend before Christmas and open the weekend after New Years. This pic was me changing engines a few days after New Years 1973 getting ready for the following weekend.
