Classing as a different year
 

How picky is NHRA about the claimed year for a vehicle if say i have a 66 and would like to class as a 67 to run a certain engine combination the only difference in the cars is the tail lights and trim and dash. do i need to swap the tail light panel and trim and dash complete the illusion or simply class in as a 67?

.What is the make/model? I would say you would need to change the tail light panel and lights if there is a noticeable difference. Doubt any interior trim would be an issue.

Didn't a Nova stocker get bounced earlier this year for the wrong tail lights for year claimed ? NHRA pretty picky...sometimes.

The answer is...it depends.
I would say, if it's a 66 Rambler Ambassador, leave it alone.

If it's an American let 'er rip. If you want to get anal the "67 gauge panel with the individual gauge pods will fit with a little work at the bottom sheetmetal of the dash. I put a '67 panel in a '65 American wagon. Looks like it came with the car.

It is an American we want to run with a 343 which is only in the guide for 67 we have several 66s but not one 67. and the differences i would call minor.

gold car is a 66 given its post not a hardtop but you can see the difference

From my experience, if a fellow competitor brings it up to a tech official they will tell you to change what ever is wrong! At Indy a Firebird was DQed for not having the correct bumper for year claimed! Hope this helps !

Huh. Speaking for myself, and probably a lot of other S/SS racers, I didn't know that until this moment.

That being said, now you'll have to change it over, after putting it on the internet.
