Like playing poker , Don't show your hand....In other words don't run fast enough to get HP on your combo.......Learn how to lift at 1,000 ft or earlier.........You will understand once you start getting your feet wet in the S/SS world.......
Class racing at it's best....

It is a polite way of saying sandbagging.
To ensure your precious horsepower or index doesn't get hit by the ahfs.

Hemiparts, the real name is "The Afraid Zone"

They call it protecting your combo, not getting HP, holding for qualifying position, not showing your hand, protecting your index, and who knows what else.

Bottom line is that they are afraid to run it out and pretend that it is real racing.

Bunch of scardy cats.

Thanks Danny, I am planning a "field trip" to Fayetteville on Sunday to do some in person research. I'm guessing it's almost like "lying back " in street racing so your opponent never see all you got. Then i guess if you get to a heads up race you can cut it loose.

From the fast guys point of view it’s called protecting your investment.

I guess it means if your combo gets hp thats going to drop your index , then the next event you have to make the car faster to make sure you make it high up the qualifying sheet ??

Re: What is "ProtectMode" ????

If you're combination gets hit, you either add weight or move up a class. At least in Stock Eliminator, and the regular Super Stock classes. An index hit happens in the other Super Stock classes.

I just love how some people brag about how fast they can go, but they never do. Then they talk smack about other people who have no choice but to protect their combination. Irony and hypocrisy, all rolled into one.

Re: What is "ProtectMode" ????

It does not drop your index ,unless you get enough HP to take you out of your natural class. It actually makes you add weight to the combo.
example:
BEFORE = wt break is 12.00x 300 (HP)=3600 lbs+ 170 (for driver)=3770 lbs
Now say that combo gets hit with 5 HP

AFTER = wt break is 12.00x 305 (HP)=3660 lbs = 170 (for driver)=3830 lbs
This is just an example ,classes and weight breaks may vary.

I will be in Fayetteville Sunday if you would like to come by i will have my IHRA classification guide books with me and can show you how this works...

Unless he knows what (i.e. owns) the letters DP or CJ stand for do you really need to truly understand protect mode? :D
