Re: Espn
That's just another wonderful deal our fabulous leaders at NHRA have gotten us into.
NHRA drag racing on ESPN, or ESPN2, will be pre-empted by ANY stick and ball sport of any kind. NHRA has been "bumped" by baseball, basketball, football, softball, and soccer. I would not be at all surprised to see it bumped by lacrosse, bowling, curling, or badminton. With the coverage NHRA gets for ESPN, it is no wonder at all that pro teams cannot get sponsors. Now, mind you, I'm not real concerned with pro teams getting sponsors. But if they can't get money, then the rest of us surely won't get any. And one big reason is crappy air time. Lousy coverage is bad enough, but lousy coverage at 2AM is even worse. Hell, one year Indy got pre-empted to show a baseball game where neither team was even in a pennant race! And yet, NHRA happily tells us that "ESPN coverage is the best we can get, and the best deal we can get." I really like the Lucas Oil Top Alcohol show. Because that is exactly what it is, 3-4 rounds of Top Alcohol and 30 seconds of the entire rest of the sportsman program. It's no wonder the sponsor pool is drying up faster than a spit puddle on an Arizona sidewalk in July. It's also no wonder at all there are no fans in the stands. If all you saw was the crap you see on TV, would you pay $20 a head plus all the other crap to come to a race? |

Re: Espn
The article said it all. Folks making decisions as to content of the broadcast are NOT DRAG RACERS & KNOW NOTHING ABOUT DRAG RACING!! ESPN's best and brightest are clueless and are killing another golden goose. Cheap to produce fluff replacing solid informative content of which there is volumes. Instead of giving the viewer steak they serve oatmeal.

I quit watching a couple years ago. I'd rather watch Larry Pfister's Horsepower Heaven videos any day! That's a one-man show that puts all of the 'broadcast' shows to shame. |
Re: Espn
I record the show and fast forward through all garbage...only watch Pro Stock and all they do is dwell on Greg Anderson crying about not being up to par....pissed me off when Mike Edwards trounced him in the final and on the return road is a shot of Greg getting out pouting as usual...Mike should have gotten the camera time...once again ESPN screws it up...Oh and like we wanna see Mike Dunn riding his bicycle down the track...give me a break.

Re: Espn
Not to mention the Newly Wed game they have time for that CRAP but can't even show any sportsman
classes?I have friend w/shop next to mine watches all the NHRA TV coverage I'll usaully ask him about P/S He replies what kind of drag racer am I because I don't watch it I reply they don't show comp,S/S or stock so it doesn't interest me besides P/S I won't set through all the other crap just to a little of P/S. I say you lose you don't get to be interviewed after losing run winner should get the interview. Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: Espn
The bicycle thing only lasted for a few seconds, the "dating game" thing really made me mad Who the hell cares how well these couples know each other. What does it have to do with televising a drag race? They must be copying Nascar with their stupid Gopher stuff, that has completely turned me off watching the cup races, I think they really underestimate the viewers intelligence. Joe
