You could say "xxx or OEM, whichever is greater", similar to the FWD camshaft rule.

I believe the Boss 429 Hemi Ford has 145 seat pressure but Ive never heard of one running in Pure stock after all these years. Something to think about but Im not involved anymore. You might not get a hold of Mike Baker unless its today until after the New Year so there is time to consider all options.
P.S. I just noticed the 1963 Max Wedge Dodge and Plymouth has 142 lbs on the seat for a factory spec. so 130 Lbs max might affect or might not affect some of these cars if anyone is running one. I think Phil Baldiccno (sp?) is still running his 1963 Max Wedge in A/PS?

OK how about this?
IF Original Stock Rating =>135lb
THAN 170lb
ELSE 130lb.

Suggestion for Pure Stock:
Add AA and AAA/PS classes to bring in some of the new cars.

Roll Bars:
Instead of a Welded-In 6 Link Roll Bar for the over 11.50 ET Rule.
Allow the new 4 Link / 6 Link Bolt-In Roll Bars.
Allow Stock Seatbelts, No Airbag Delete.
The Late model cars are well constructed for Crash Protection.
Products are already available for the Road Race Community.
Brings in a new Manufacturer. Maybe new Contingency Money.

Figure a 3 tenths average with this change.
IHRA will have to recalculate the Indexes.

Again this new Spring Rule if adopted may have a benefit and bring in a few parked Stockers hiding in Garages.

I personally am not a big fan of changing the indexes because it makes it even harder for a beginner to get into class racing.

If the IHRA had something like NHRA's AFHS in place, the quick cars next year in PS would just get more h.p. and not penalize the entry racers.

My Pure Stocker now can barely run the index. I know people will say to work harder on it and yes I can spend more labor on it, but that higher stall convertor, lighter wheels, tires, and "stocker" cam (with trick springs) don't come free.

So after spending the additional money, it might as well be built as a regular Stocker so it can run both HRAs.

Good idea Mike in my opinion. FYI....... I talked to Phil with the A/PS 1963 Max Wedge and he dosent think the 130 lb seat pressure rule would hurt his car as he shifts at 5600 RPM anyway and has his springs set around 135 lbs. Dwight and Dan are right in that its eaiser during break in. Like I said I dont have anything to do with it so its up to Mike Baker. All I was doing was making a suggestion or two. I did get a call from a good NHRA tech guy I have known for years and he said he thought its a step in the right direction.

AL !!
Pffffttt .. you Bumper Scraper..
You have the Q/SA Turbo T-Bird that is soooo quick that you need a parachute to slow it down :o

Check out the Howard Drop in Springs.
These are SBC Springs from Competition Products catalog.

98212, 98214 are $50 & $30 respectively.
Zero Tolerance 98213 & 98214 are $85 and $110
These are the same Spring except 98215 are ElectroPolished.
Love them too, will never break and live a lot longer than Standard Springs.

Have them on my 383 Bracket Engine.
Know a racer that uses them on his Road Course SBC engine.

X-TECH MAN can you get Phil to send a picture of his Max Wedge for the Photo Gallery?

^^ agree

In my opinion, IHRA Pure Stock is the last great drag racing class for production cars using production parts.

I remember reading car magazine features years ago about Pure Stockers and was in awe how quick the cars were running using stock spec cams and other actual "stock" parts.

So when I started building my Pure Stocker 2 years ago, I was having fun trying to see how quick I could make the car using actual Ford production parts.
Challenging, but fun. :)

Okay I've been following all the comments pro and con on the so called camshaft rule. Let me say as a pure stock racer for 20 plus years. I really don't care which way they decide. I personally would rather see the class back to dot tires, no headers, oem mufflers, ect. PURE STOCK!!! But I doubt that will ever be again,so if I need to change cam and springs, they needto let us know soon the season is about to start. Oh well I've said my piece, and I would also like to tell Terry hi and thanks for trying to make some sense of all this, also come see us at the races sometime, I'll be at Bradenton in april, come visit.

IMHO,

For current and future Pure Stock racers,

Other than dealing with the proposed cam / valve spring rules,
PLEASE leave the current Pure Stock rules alone..

Keep in mind that this is supposed to be an entry level (though competitive) class with results achieved by innovation and hard work, not cubic $$$$..

Pure Stock does not need Drag Specific (AA, AAA) factory built drag cars, or blower or turbo cars. only showroom available, to the general public. If IHRA accepts the 2009- 2014 showroom available cars just added to the NHRA guide, most V8's will fit in B/PS thru E/PS. Challenger cpe, Must GT and Camaro SS.

Roll bars and harnesses may be have to be considered below 11.49

The indexes, let IHRA monitor the first few races and go from there. Some combos may need HP to level the field rather than an index change. NEVER suggest a 3 tenths index reduction, if you're wrong you'll never get it back....

Pure Stock may be considered to be last shred (in both HRA"S) of how it was and originally conceived (pre 1985) as Stock or Jr Stock back in
the day. As shown by the amount of interest generated in this thread,
(over 6,100 hits and 87 replies) in three days, it is evident that there is interest to preserve and promote Pure Stock.

Thanks to Terry, Dwight, and other "veterans" who share their opinions and experiences related to the direction of this class..
