Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
My Deepest Sympathies to the Martin family. All though I never had the pleasure of meeting Kip Martin, his name is legendary in the world of Drag Racing and I have followed his racing and accomplishments for many, many years.

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Kip would visit his daughters out in Kansas, on his way back to Phoenix he would stop at my shop in Colorado and spend a few days, this was always my oppurtunity to discuss my car setup with him, Kip and Harold Bettes would talk for hours about the old days while I would work, those lunches were always filled with tech talk :) those I will miss, at night he would always go out to dinner with my family, and my family was very close to him. I remember one day we drove up to Denver to buy a 454 core, always Kip the gentlemen engaged in a conversation with the seller, and for you guys that never met Kip, he was a very likeable, the kind of person you liked having around!

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Prayers for Kip and his family! .I often wondered how he could get a 289 with 440 cfm carburetor to go that fast. He was the yardstick that Fazio Family Racing measured their performance!

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
In the early 70's we were racing at Amarillo , Texas and Kip was pitted by me and he had to tear down the Engine I believe for a record with His Ford Galaxy ,just as I was changing a new cam in My Chevy .Darn if Kip had his motor apart and back to gather before I got the cam done , so he came over and helped me finish , I knew his motive we were all going to go out to diner that night and he wanted to make sure we did that lol
Of course i bought Wow He was one of the quickest racer i know who could take his engine apart for tear down and get it back together in time to go out to diner (tie):) |
Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Kip had just set the SS/L record (again) in Tucson. I asked him if he held anything back....He just smiled....and said....."Nope....that is all we got"....and gave me a wink

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Like many of you here, I never met Kip, but that didn't stop him from being one of my heroes. Godspeed, Kip.

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Kip was not only the best automotive machinist that I have known but also the most helpful. I was lucky enough to meet him years ago when his machine shop was in back of Alan Patterson's and he has been one of my heros since. He will be greatly missed.
My prayers are with his family. Pete |
Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
My thoughts are out for his family. I first heard of him when he was in KS and I was aware that he moved his operation to AZ. You can sure tell by the posts on here that he touched a lot of people in his life.
