Re: JP1738's Stocker and S/G car

It's been a very busy beginning to summer and I haven't updated my build thread in a while. Mainly because I haven't made many changes or broken anything in the last month thankfully. Since last updating I attended my first CCRA race at Rockingham dragway, entered a few more 6.00 Index races, and made my way to GALOT for the Sunday 1/8th mile national open for Stock and Super Gas. Haven't made much noise at all with the stocker in it's two appearances since I last posted, but not for lack of effort. An .036 r/t dead 9 pass at The Rock was not good enough to get out of first round and an .029 2 above lick did not get it done first round in stock at GALOT either. Pulling in the lanes rather poorly but I'm thrilled with my improvements at swapping feet and the car's consistency since I fixed the 1-2 auto shift.

My Mazda has been absolutely on fire this year, however. I've entered 5 6.0 index races this year and 1 SGAS race and made it to the finals in 5 out of 6 of them (and should've gone deeper in the 1 race I didn't make it to the final in, met the tree coming on 3rd round after letting go stellar all day up to that point). Wasn't able to capitalize on the car's hot streak at Charlotte national or GALOT though, .016 take .004 at charlotte no good, and .012 6.297 at GALOT did not make it by first round at either race.

Funny how you can remember the losing rounds with great detail but the winning ones not so much. Anyway, here's a few pics from the last month as I've stayed busy racing!

^Taken after a runner up finish at Piedmont dragway this past weekend at a 6.0 race paying 5k to win. Ended up splitting in the final 15 and 35 hundred^

Have you ever compared aluminum and cast iron intakes on your stocker to see if there's any difference. Most everone I've talked to says Iron is faster but it's still hard to resist running something that's 20 lb's lighter on front end.

I haven't tried the cast iron intake manifold, but I'd like to. I run the weighted class for my car, N instead of M, so I don't really care about the weight. I can peel 20 pounds out of the weight box fairly easily.

Please don?t forget to tried and true Stk/SS test parameters:
Buy it, Try it, and then Put it on the shelf.
Good luck

. Bill I tried two on the dyno at Trumble shop both were 5 to 7 hp less than the iron.

You want to try an iron intake, the ?crowfoot? version seems to be the one to use

Welp, looks like the stocker is going to be down for a while. Killed a new to me set of tires and completely sheared off an adjustable 4-link bar. I'm thankful the car stayed rubber side down and that I didn't blow a tire or lose the entire rear-end. Not sure when the bar broke, on the first pass or on the trailer on the way to Wilksboro Dragway. Either way my wagon is down for the count. I'll get it fixed and back going straight again before too long!

May want to check for Binding throughout the rear suspension travel when you start putting it back together.
