Jealousy will do that. Maybe they should try their hand at bracket racing, they might learn something. All they need is a bottle of shoe polish.................never mind, y'all already have one.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I am jealous especially since I'm doing exactly what I want to do. What a lame stupid *** comment.

Yo Steve1118, if you think that racing an 'offbeat' 4 cylinder Super Stocker is easy or cheap, come on over and tell me how it's done. Apparently I'm not as smart as you.

There was a comment about the cost I was explaining the difference! It costs way less to campaign a foot break car than a competitive stocker. Just fact I did it! There are some cheap ways to race a stocker but an 11 or 10 second car it is not cheap! Most of these guys in the shootout are in 9 second cars and will not spend what it takes to own a 9 second stocker.
The cost to go to a bracket race at your local track is nothing compared to and LODRS race. Personal experience.

I compared the US Nationals to the World Footbrake Challenge because both are considered to be at the highest level of competition for each. A comparison was made between an LODRS race and the WFC apples and oranges.

Cutting and pasting from posts may make a point but leaves out the context of the original.

Taking a comment out of context is a misunderstanding.

Some of us actually did bracket with some success and decided to go stocker racing and live a dream. Jealous NOOOOOOO!!!

FACT: It costs more and it's more work to race a stocker. The faster it is against the index the more it costs and more work required.

We have a race coming up at Kil-Kare in two weeks. $290 entry fee for the weekend gets you into three races, $5K/$10K/$5K. How much the entry fee/payout/car investment is irrelevant, and doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. I have a $5,000 Stocker, and had a $30,000 Super Stocker. Who cares?

It was at Englishtown. This would be like other Nat'l/Div'l event categories complaining about Class Eliminations, Factory Stock Shootouts, Hemi Shootouts, etc. It's a specialty event. I don't think the 8 Pro ET cars had a devastating effect on the quotas for class racers, nor did they take up much pit area or track time.

Since everyone is specifically "not bashing bracket racers", why don't those people address their quota concerns with NHRA and SRAC? Quotas have been an issue forever. I remember years ago having 141 Stockers at the Etown LODRS, yet they only accepted 108 Stockers for the Etown National. Direct your frustration at NHRA for only accepting 75 Stockers, or the fact that it takes them FOUR DAYS to run one race with 400 cars.

The title of this thread "Bracket Racing vs Stock/Super Stock Racing" is a misnomer. They are different classes. There is no "versus".

In fact I have shared my frustration with NHRA on this matter Michael. I love ya buddy but I have to call BS on these exhibitions not costing us quota. For every car that's entered under these exhibitions it cost pit space and valuable time especially somewhere like Etown with their curfew. You of all people understand this as a promoter, again my gripe is not with bracket racing, I've watched all kind of exhibition classes run at Nationals and it ain't right in my viewpoint that's all. Am I upset about it, yes but I'm not going to quit over it but I don't mind expressing my opinion about it.

Great post James.
They don't run stock or SS at the bracket finals for a Wally do they. Everyone wants a Wally but don't want to spend the time, money and work to get one. That's what bracket racing is for with the exception of the big money guys and the top cars

Oh, you're probably smarter than this old man, after all, you one of the prima donna class guy and all of you are the smartest and most victimized in all of racing. And, you no doubt spend a lot more money than I do. I guarantee you do, and have no doubt you can sink $5K in 'trick' cylinder heads, or $5K in trans/converter combo. How impressive. And, no doubt you've got a stacker, and a motor home, or at least a new one ton dually with a fully loaded trailer. And, you have no problem spending $1500 and taking off work to attend a National event that will pay you what, $2K maybe, if you outlast 80 other guys? But, you've made my point for me, thank you. It's not an entry level eliminator anymore. The brackets you guys all disdain are. For every one of you there is 500 bracket guys, and most of them are the best drivers in the sport. They race a lot, and every car can run the number. And, no, I'm not one of them, but I don't begrudge a few of them showcasing their talents at a National event. If NHRA sees fit to give the winner a Wally, who cares? It's their call. I'm an old geezer who has found new life racing obsolete stuff in Nostalgia Super Stock, and I like it. I have fun, I don't spend a lot, and I change oil, dump gas in it, and set the valves when I'm bored. Done enough of working my butt off in the past 50 years. Don't feel the least bit guilty for it. Enjoy yourself being exhausted and broke.

At the Summernationals, SS & STK had a combined total of 138 runs in eliminations (including byes and singles). Of those, only 3 (2.2%) were heads up. Additionally, none of the finalists or semi-finalists had to face heads-up runs on the day.
