My first introduction to Mr Gunn was at a points meet where as a newbie in Stock eliminator with my Camaro running poorly not even running close to the index, here out of the blue this man offers his help and proceeds in rebuilding my quadrajet in a couple of minutes, giving me new plugs(showing me how to index them) and on my next run I'm running 4ths under. He could have just continued on his merry way but instead helped these two people who were way over their heads. I was once told many years ago that the true wealth of a man is how people remember him once he passes to the next world. Mr Gunn from what I see was a rich man in friends. CR

My condolences to Linda,Amanda & the rest of the Gunn family.
Like Sal, John offered my his Black Olds to drive one year at Gainesville (he came as part of the deal!). From that point on, we were good friends! Later I drove his Ciera (after Sal had already won everything in sight with it!). My memories of staying at John & Linda's house (sometimes w/ Popps Gunn) are some of my best racing memories. John was an absolute encyclopedia of racing info. many times I would be at the shop and a stranger would call to ask about a rare engine combo or a machining question. Routinely he would be machining an engine for a big farm tractor or a piece of heavy equipment while rare Hemi engine parts lay around the shop. "Lipsy", as many would affectionately call him, was a GREAT humanbeing and friend to most. He was always willing to help anyone and often loaned out his equipment and helped others like he himslef had it on loan. When Amanda (John & Linda's daughter) was real young, we would routinely go to the same local restaurant for dinner (before heading to Lebannon Valley the next morning). I cannot remember the name of this family restaurant, but as you would expect, John was the mayor of this place! everyone knew what he wanted to eat and knew he and his family by first name. The two things I will always remember most about John are his bigger than life heart & his ability to always make me laugh (even after losing). I will always remember the times in Gainesville with a certain charracter named Lance Demarzo sprinkled in for added comedy and laughs.
