RJ, The number 1 bs combo is the CJ, It needs about 50 for the rest of the ASA can run with it. The 340 maybe 1-2hp. Missed Indy this year , will be there next!

Well Jeff i think you hit the nail right on the head. The 340/289 HP combo fits that 1.5 HP figure to a tee and Mitch confirmed it. Maybe NHRA will make some adjustments to this combo. Hope to see your car soon at the races.

You're right about the CJ's needing power, but the new Hemi's ran very close to them. They also need power. Hopefully NHRA will take care of it. Just don't hold your breath!
It makes no difference what Class you run, if another Combo has got a strangle hold on it, and has it in large numbers (number of cars) then it needs HP. I don't care if its a Ford, GM, Mopar or what, its not right. My car is fast, I don't know of another 390 Ford that runs like it does. I spend a lot of money and all my time working on it. Its like its my job. I can go 1.20 under on occasion in killer air and a great track. There are 8 or 10 340/289 cars that are not only fast, they are BAD Fast. Its just common sense if you have 3 cars at indy that are running them out and going 1.29, 1.25 and 1.17 under the index they need to add some power to them. The Barracuda and Challenger 340 Combo's are rated at 299 hp, People say they are different body styles. I say BS, they both have a 108" wheelbase, so why do they carry different HP ratings. It was a screw up by somebody no longer at NHRA. They should have given the extra 10 hp to all the 108" wheelbase cars Period!!! My Fairlane (116" wheelbase) carrys the same Factor as a Mustang (108" wheelbase), so should I have a lower HP Factor than a Mustang with a 390?? NHRA says no, you are rated at the same Factor. So why does a Duster get it at 289 hp and its 299 hp for the Challenger and Cuda and they share the same exact wheelbase. Please don't tell me some California Cuda or Challenger ran to far under 5 or 6 years ago and since they are "B" body and not "E" body or "C" body or "A" body or anybody, cars that they are different. BS they both share the same 108" wheelbase and they should both share the 299 HP Factor. Findell, Buckner, Wann, Mosbeck, Lowell, Durham, Davis, all have gone under by a mile this year. The 5 fastest passes during the first 6 month period in F/SA included 4 340/289 hp cars. And you say they need how much power 1-2 hp? You were making a joke right? I hope that NHRA does the right thing, I have my doubts. Like David Buckner said in his original post...."4 hp won't make a bit of difference for us". Hey at least he was being honest. Not that it really matters but the Cudas, Darts and Challys have different wheelbases. The 67-69 Dart is 111 except the 68 Hemi which is 110. The 67-69 Cuda is 108 including the 68 Hemi. The Ebody Cuda is 108 but the Chally is 110. The Duster is 108. While not the same they are for sure closer in size than the Fairlane and a Mustang and your point is still valid as to the Fords being in different "families" except in NHRA's eyes. |

The dangerous thing here is that all the 1000 foot "divers" (NOT DRIVERS) are ruining it for the fans.
I was at Indy for Thursday and Friday to watch my favourite classes, Stock and Super Stock. It is a dissapointment to go there and see cars lifting during the qualifying passes, but to watch so many cars try to nose an opponent in class and some even getting whizzed themselves by trying to protect the horsepower, geesh. Whats next throttle stops? My car has never been as fast as the "class"of SS/CS but I try very hard to be as fast as I can be and savour the day when I can go to Indy with enough under the hood to make my opponent wonder if he has enough for me. If I can cast that doubt I will be pretty happy. When they show how fast they really can be I just know I have to work harder. My point is it is called racing, Pinks is succesful because they do not put up with sand baggers, we as a class do not want to be grouped with the "super bracket" classes but with that kind of showing how could that not happen? This is very dangerous ground and could surely result in the same exodus of fans during our run sessions that the other classes have created. ARE YOU SURE that protecting you horsepower is that important? I applaud anybody that has the guts to lay it all on the line ( the finish line) and say this is my best sXXt, catch me if you can! I agree.....very well said. I like the part about "DIVERS" and not drivers. Also the part about throttle stops. Its almost like the stock and super stock guys are using finish line throttle stops. The fans (what few there are) are going to go for a hot dog when the class cars run just like when the .90 guys run. As long as NHRA has a 128 qualified car limit on the field you will have this situation. Maybe they need to go back to class winners only get to run for the eliminator to stop this foolishness.
