Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Can't even begin to express how deeply saddened I am to learn of Kip's passing. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but between stories from my dad and others, it almost felt like I knew him. Wish I had. There are many names in the sportsman ranks that, to me, are pioneers of the sport. Names I grew up with. He is...was one of them. For all that you knew about Fords, I'll bet the good Lord will help you find another tenth in the Mustang in the sky. Rest in piece.

Watched Kip let that Mustang rip many times at Topeka. Very sad.

Kip was not only a racer / machinist / engine buider / record setter, he had other interests also, roller skating, bike riding, piano, he was my core hunting buddy, I always bounced my ideas off him, the people who knew him, he always had a common sense approach to engine building, and solving problems, he did more with less than anyone I know. We will miss you.

Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
Back in the 70's I teched Kip's Galaxie the first time he raced it at Indy. He won SS/OA class so he got his invitation to teardown. Back then teardown was at Paul Harvey Ford. Dave Danish told me to go over Kip's car from bumper to bumper. Seems that a lot of people were complaining that a big 352 Galaxie should not run like that.
Kip's Galaxie made it through teardown with no problem. At the end of the day Kip shook my hand and thanked me for being so thorough. I thanked him for building a car that followed the rules. Over the years Kip would sometimes call me and ask a question as to whether something he wanted to try was legal or not. I always enjoyed talking to Kip and am glad I had the privilege of knowing him. He was always a gentleman. RIP my friend. |
Re: Prayers for Kip Martin
I first met Kip through Lloyd Bray and D.G. Gillam when he was racing his Galaxie a lot of years ago. He was always quick with help and unrestricted advice. You will be missed as both fantastic human being and a great racer. Prayers and condolences for his family.

He had an A/ED with a 407 SBF in the early 90's. Sad to hear of his passing, he was a big influence, glad I got to see him in Fontana a few years back. |
