So if the Spring Pressure is 30% above Stock it will be OK?
Just so long as it is a Stock Replacement Spring!
Correct?

Hello Mike:
Called Bullet Cams for advice…
He asked me to confirm on my LT1 1995 SBC Engine.
My Car runs G/Pure Stock. 1995 Impala SS.

Looking at a replacement spring from Associated Spring VS574..
Lists as a LT-1 replacement spring.
Need to know if it qualifies as a Pure Stock Legal Spring for my car.

I agree that this rule hurts the Intent of Pure Stock.
Having mixed opinion because the original rule was working to bring more cars in to Stock as a Pure Stocker.

Just wondering why this topic was not discussed.
The old rules were working just fine.
Not a lot of us but enough to make the Class interesting.
Drawing in the new cars and Racers interested in giving Class Racing a crack.
That was the intent of Pure Stock.

As for getting the ear of Mike.
Yes...he likes working with me.
Likes the fact of supporting Pure Stock and being an advocate of IHRA racing.
I was making a difference and attracting folks getting interested in Class Racing.
I post on IHRA blogg on LinkedIn.

In the interest of speeding up a detailed tech inspection of a cam.
I get that.

Just think there were other ways to to speed up that process.
Such as having the CamManufacturer declare the Cam was built to the intent of the Rules.
Reputation means everything to a Manufacturer.
A Cam Card Certified. Have it sent to an IHRA Tech person to measure it.

Understand the Reffing part very well.
How can the processes be designed so the Tech Inspection is quick and thorough?
Made a suggestion to have Centers and Dates set up between races just for Tech Inspection.
Meet in mass prepared and assisting the Inspectors.

The number of IHRA National Records set is pathetic compared to NHRA.
More cars Teched will take the National Record challenge.

Other ideas need to collaborated with Racers.
This was a bit of a shocker.

Bottom line..
How can we make IHRA Better for every one than NHRA ?

LOL
Don't forget the Kirkey seats as well. :D

Seriously, I believe this could be the deathblow to PS.
What a shame.

IHRA may be ahead of the curve.......
NHRA has just accepted the 2010. 2012, and 2013 Mustang GT (showroom available) into the Classification guide. 227 V6, 4.6 (281)V8, and the 5.0 (302)V8 in different years. IHRA, we can assume will follow suit and accept these also for Stock / Pure Stock. Now the fun begins, DOHC cams 3 or 4 valve per cyl, separate cams for int and ex in each head. Independent Variable valve (cam) timing, the overlap can be in a range of -51 to +49 @.050 depending on what the phasers are doing at a given RPM or in the park (off) position.... A potential Tech Man's Pure Stock nightmare ? or just check lift at the retainer and done, and, 32 itty bitty beehive springs buried under all that OHC stuff...

On principal it's good to see production cars in the guide for a change. But, the 5.0 and 4.6 factoring is way worse than the 5.0 and 4.6 CJs are. Same car, so might as well run the CJ combo. V6 doesn't look good either, and not many would be interested in running one anyway.

^^ agree

The V-6 is rated at 260 h.p.....a bit too high. Should have been 230 hp.
Without much aftermarket support for the 3.7, I doubt we will see this combo used much.
Has to be 3550 lbs raceweight and run on a 12.65 index in K/SA.
It will take at least 350 fwhp to do it according to the Wallace calculator.

The 2010 4.6 GT engine is a bit high @ 270 hp compared to the same year 4.6 CJ at 272 h.p.....and that 2 h.p. more gets you cnc ported heads, twin 62 mm throttle body, bigger cams, and probably more compression.

The Coyote 5.0 is way off the mark at 380 h.p.

That's too bad.

Yes, we bought unleaded gas at the track that is on the list of approved fuels for Stock on the IHRA web site. Also, that was when we were test and tuning late in the summer. That fuel is gone and before we raced in Dallas Thanksgiving weekend we stopped at a gas station for good 'ol 93 octane pump gas.

Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!

I have mixed opinions on cam/spring rule.
There is probaly 3 factors for this decision,1 is speeds up tech,2 is many newer cars there aren't duration, overlap, spring specs.3 is not up to me to comment on,I'll just say someone loaned out some information and the borrower does'nt seem to want to return it for some reason

I don't really like it but I will be changing my cam, valve springs, then probaly gearing in trans and rear and last but not least I'll be adding about 800-1200 rpm.

I do like that will be able to run under K/S index in NHRA now instead of a little above,so will be able to run @ Bowling Green now without having to finish new engine.

As far as driving pure stockers, later model cars were still drivable, but my older combo I could barely run under and be drivable,so drivability was gone for me along time ago, plus if could drive would still haul I don't like walking home.
