This is what I was thinking.

Qualifications

#1 10 points
#2 5 points
#3 3 points
#4 2 points
#5 1 point

Records

Record Set 10 points
- Can't set the same record more than twice in a year
- Record must be .75 under the index or greater

I think that's pretty simple and a fair place to start.

Your proposal is fair to no one except individuals who race newer model cars or have a ton of money to spend on changing combos everytime they want to race for points. This would virtually eliminate the "average" stock/superstock racer for winning a division or other championship.

This is a silly thread anyway, NHRA will never consider a proposal like this as it would eliminate competitors. Also, I never said anything about eliminating heads-up runs in competition, maybe that's your suggestion?

Fred,
You have more money than most and claim you can be on the poll at most races we go to. So who exactly are you speaking for? I think maybe it's time for you to stop talking about it and actually retire like you have been talking about for three years.

Wasn't it the rule years ago to award qualifying points? I know that points were awarded for record setting years ago.
I've qualified in the top 10 at about 40 NHRA races, and I've never raced a car newer than 5 years old. And everyone on here knows I don't spend much money. I just pulled my motor after 300 or so runs on gas ported pistons.

Top 10 Qualifying 5 points each.. 10 points National record, et only. By giving the top 10 the same amount of points you will have more cars trying to run faster and not give the "soft" combos an advantage. Yes there were points awarded before for records et and mph also bonus points if you went to all of your home division races.

Mike I found this post back on page 3 drifting away in the wind. Not much support for this idea. To bad.

Ed, there is a lot of support for this idea. Unfortunately, none of it matters to NHRA, which is who we'd have to get to put it into place. It would add a considerable amount of "work" to their already intolerable burden of carrying sportsman drag racing along for the ride with the "pro circus".

You've received something official from NHRA on this?

Jeff I do not think one needs official word. Logical thinking explains it. I agree with Ed and Alan on this
