i have been pourin water under john's tires going on 43 years sometime in the 2010 season. so he's been around a while and we coaxed Terry Earwood out of retirement every once in a while (even thou he still turns right and left for work) he can still go straight real well . just don't ask him about the school bus unless ya got a week

Just for clarification, Beswick started in '52.

Also, FWIW, I know a few Bonneville racers who are in their seventh decade of competition and several were active drag racers between '49-'60.

(By the way, I presume we're omitting Garlits, who started in '50, because of multiple retirements? After all, he is a class racer now!)

I started racing in june of 1960 at york, pa with a 58 pontiac bonneville conv with 3x2s
first run was 16.48 @ 86mph - still have time slip
won over 100+ trophies with this car
then build a 58 pontiac and set many records (nascar, naar, nhra)

I guess I can enter myself in this, as I went to Union Grove in 1956, and the following week I raced a 55 Chebby, 265 W/4bbl, 3 speed w/overdrive, and got my butt kicked !
I've been racing ever since !
Less in the last 2 years, due to some health problems, that are now cleared up !
Will be back in 2010, on a limited schedule , but I'll be out having my usual good time ! See you guys this summer,,,,,,,,,.John Lang

Bret you better check your resources, Beswick was in the US Army in '52. Just got off the phone with him.

My only resources were Arnie and the newspaper clippings I have of him running at Half Day that year.

My first track experience was at Pomona, '59 or '60 with a flag starter. Still doin it today. But my hat's off to the Greek, Arnie Beswick and Jess Tyree.
