The track definately can hold its own. A pro mod went 3.89 at 200 on its second day open. Was going to watch the fuel altereds out there this past Saturday but it rained. Cant wait to see what these wild 10.5 cars do this upcoming weekend. The reason that they were having 1/8th mile passes is because the first pair one of the cars got loose and hit the wall.

Huh? :confused: Where do my likes or dislikes come into this? You're more than welcome to dislike 1/8th mile racing. It's not really relevant to the conversation, though. You said, "please don't tell me this is an 1/8th mile track." It is not an 1/8th mile track, and I answered your question. So... what's the problem?

No, sorry Ed. We have a double-header Pro-Am/Sportsman National at Richmond, right up the road, on the same weekend. I've made the crazy long trips to San Antonio and Tulsa before, so I wouldn't rule it out in the future. Looks like a great facility, so if scheduling and such all come together sometime, I'd be more than happy to support them. Good luck next week!

Mike, i think someone is wanting this track to fail....sounds like he has a grudge against them or something...i dunno but it sure looks like a great track and the video on youtube of the pro mod race looks like its a pretty fast track....there is too many people who feel shallow about 1/8 racing...i thought racing was about racing no matter what size or grade of the track we are all here to race and have fun not down our sport or complain because a track or persons racing feel it would be safer to race 1/8 rather than 1/4 mile.....sometimes a decision like that could save someones life

1/8 th. mile is too quick,.it's bad when they use good 1/4 mile tracks and run an 1/8....top whatever want to run 1/8th,let 'em.Give me 1320..."1/8 mile sucks" Bart.

you have to be on your game to win on the 1/8th mile, no room for recovery for a mistake. Heck, we used to race valve covers down a 4x8 sheet of plywood during the winter and made a series out of it. lol you were classified by how much your valve cover weighed. A true drag racer will race anything.

I have won at least as many rounds running half track the past couple of years, and don't find any of that "It's harder, you have to be sharper, it will make you better, etc, etc" to be true at all. Same deal, just have to quit sooner. I only run half track under special circumstances. Special races or conditions like dangerous winds. Here at Tulsa one weekend when I was still bracket racing some we were all in the staging lanes they anounced the races would be shortened to 1/8th mile due to the winds. The anouncer told me they heard a car in the staging lanes start, and somebody behind him said "That would be Ed." (It was) Half track (for me) is bad enough, half track brackets? I don't think so. To each his own, likeing one over the other doesn't make you any more or less of a racer than the others.

If that is all there was in my area I would have stayed "retired". To me 130 MPH is a lot more fun than 106. If you live in a rural area with nothing but short tracks, that is what you are stuck with. If drag racing is still that new to you, I imagine you would probably like it just fine as long as you just get to race. It doesn't make you any more of a "real racer" than the people that can afford the time and money to drive to 1/4 mile tracks he or she prefers. Some don't feel quiting earlier and running slower is "real racing". Others like it just fine. You have the freedom to do whichever you prefer. It's America, right?

Quarter mile racing is way cool, but if you need to sharpen your finish line skills. Eight mile racing will sure help with that. Quarter mile tracks almost feel like slow motion and double the time for decision making at the stripe. DFW area now has 5 really excellant tracks, 3 eight mile and 2 quarter mile tracks. I just hope there is a strong enough market around here for them all to be successful.

Don,
The Pro Mods ran a show there on Friday night, They ran some pretty good times.
The rains came & washed the Fuel altered show out on Sat. They are going back this sat.
My guy walked the track & made some comments about it. It had rubber on it, but after the 1/8th mile the rubber was pulling up in some small spots. He had no reservations about making 1/8 mile A/F altered passes. If the race isn't washed out this weekend I will get more info. I'm pretty sure when the IHRA track prep is applied it will be a hooking track. He said it looked like it had a slight crown, which Ennis doesn't. He said it didn't look like it would be a narrow groove. It might turn out good like it is or it could be like Red River, worked OK, but came around real well after the surface was ground. Time will tell. I would like to be there, but my toter has pitched a head gasket & we haven't had time to fix it. Just too much work at the shop after my 10 day Vacation with my Dad. (his 83rd birthday) I'm still adjusting back to our time.. seems like I'm still on Calif. time. :~) I hope everyone gives it a chance & takes the negative comments for what they are. I've been in the same shoes as the new track owner, When I built the Prescott Ar Track back in the late 70's. we had problems we had to adjust to & the track didn't work with the same prep as My other track in Tyler Tx. or how Hallsville was preped. I never got the early(pre race) negative comments, no internet at that time, but sure got some comments when what we did didn't work. I considered those comments constructive, unlike some of the posts on this forum. Give the owners a chance. They are sure trying(making a big investment) to make a good place for us to race.
