Look at Pistol Pete's post in Solution for our Sport by Pat Joffrion.

Re: What if ?
Pistol Pete,
I haven't been to an NHRA event in ten years. I am a subscriber to ND, but I am seriously considering dropping out of it also. The only way to get their attention is through the bulge in their pants...the one produced by the billfold. |
Re: What if ?
This doesn't have to be just a "what if"... Jump in any time, y'all...!

I'd like to loan my talents..............but I don't have any.

Re: What if ?
So, what's being proposed here. Local/Regional congregations of disgruntled racers? Are we looking at making these inclusive, by that I mean using stock and super stock, both NHRA and IHRA cars? I think this would be good, kind of a super S/SS combo type race. I also think allow the .90 cars, both 9.90 and 10.90 but trans brakes being the only electronics. Take away the gimics and it'd be a racer's race again.
Admittedly, I'm far from ready but I will have two cars, our 66 Nova could run the 10.90 class and our 79 Firebird will be a legal IHRA crate motor stocker. I wish we were farther along, would love to be part of this. Robert Swartz |
Re: What if ?
I was wondering what some of you thought of running sticks and automatics running together (maybe with a slight weight difference in the lower classes) heads up during the eliminator to #1 cut down on the number of classes to ease the "pain" on manufacturers pay outs...#2 having more heads up runs for a better spectator show????? Also the '90 class guys (and women) have thier own programs with or without the throttle stops. This would be an association for class legal race cars and as the Class Nationals from 8 years ago proved it can be done. The car cout was almost to much to handle without the '90 classes back then. I would also like to have conversations with the group the "Tanker" runs and the Carolina class racers after they are up and running. Im somewhat dimayed that more heavy hitters have not said anything about this. Maybe its because they dont think any idea or program is good unless it comes from the established associations????

Re: What if ?
There's any number of classes you could combine based on indexes. Granted, some indexes have changed recently, but I put together a spreadsheet a year or two ago that showed all the classes that could be combined. Could be quite a bit of heads-up racing. You could say something like HP/1 = all 11.15 index classes, HP/2 = 11.25, etc. -=shrug=- Since we live and die by it, I'd just call it the HORSEPOWER Series.
That being said, if you're going to do a single stand-alone event this year, I'd suggest just leaving things alone and running it like the US Class Nationals. Since everyone would be there, things could be discussed on how people preferred a multi-race series for 2010 would be run. |
