Stock was designed to be the grass roots class for beginers. I was starting a father/son project (more father than son, maybe he saw the light before me) where I could spend some quality time on a project with him. NHRA stock is far beyond our means. How could we ever compete with the Pro's. Now I hear Don Garlits want to run a stocker. I'ts just not reasonable. I will say that through this fourm I have learned a lot about the new eara of drag racing and I have met a lot of nice people Dean Oliver, Mike Voth, and Aaron Leown the list can go on and on. One question I did have though... is that "Have a Good Day" Bobby Baker a real person or an imposter who likes to get on here and piss everyone else off. Sorry Bobby but I had to get that one in. LOL I enjoy reading all of your posts too. |

As for getting back to "stock" Stock, we all know that many OEM parts are difficult to find, expensive and in some, but not all cases, superceded anyway. And that would require tech to spend more time and effort to enforce more details which, unfortunately, they are trying to get away from and likely won't reverse their course. |
Re: Cylinder Head Runner Volumes
When NHRA poured heads for SS They didn't take into account different valves. On my 72 340 stock heads with flat valves the cc's are bigger than spec with the tulip valve they are smaller. I talked with Bruce about this a few years ago. I would have to fill a stock port to make them meet the spec. I have 20 sets of stock unmolested 340 heads

Re: Cylinder Head Runner Volumes
Are 3/8" stem Mopar valves that are necked down in the bowl area legal in NHRA? That would alter the volume also.

X-tech man? I know that if a "pure" stock class of new cars were started again some kind of evolution would take place in the next 30 years again. Do you agree with the similarity involved with Stk and SS today?Maybe since I have not actually had a Stock class car I am missing the expensive differences. How would you "restart" or preserve the entry level position of a Stock class?
