Rich , did you make that panel, where your heater controls, and radio were? Or did you buy it? Im gonna take my radio out, and can buy a delete plate, but would consider removing the heater controls, too, if i can make that area look as good as yours does....http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psd9a213c8.jpg

Got the delete panel at Camaro Central Brent... http://www.camarocentral.com/1967_19...p/das-1011.htm

Good news...the engine is going back together Christmas day. :)

Guys, the rulebook states, about three times, heater controls must remain in dash.

There were some GM cars made that were heater delete.
A friend had a 68 Chevelle with NO factory heater or defroster ,that he had shipped back here from Hawaii when he got out of the Army... So that would be your point of defense.

There are a few ounces worth of switches and levers that can be trimmed off the back side of the control panel.

Heater delete was an option in 1967 for the Camaro (H designation on the trim tag). Fed mandated a defroster in 1968.

Brent - Looks like the delete option carried over to Firebirds as well ( K designation on the trim tag). If you claimed as a 1967 you would be legal.

So a '68 couldnt have been ordered without a heater? Mark, i saw that in the rules, that heater controls had to stay in the dash... but, i havent done the research on whether it was legal or not, to do as Rich's car has been done.

I didnt figure there was alot of weight there... radio is definitely comin out...im sure its worth atleast .0001 hehe

Brent - My research showed that beginning in 1968 all cars were federally mandated to have at minimum a defroster.

Awesome about your engine! Im working on gettin a good lightened 350 trans( cant afford a 200 just yet), and this is more about weight, than anything. And got a bigger cam, goin in, sometime after i get trans in, and make some solid passes... I hope to see some 11teens by end of season, crossing fingers! hehe

Probably not that easy for Brent. I believe there would be a door change with vent windows and a cylinder head change also. To claim his car as a 67. Tony
