I feel bad for everyone that was there already, but at least they did'nt string you along till Sunday. I have been involved in several of those back in the late 90s. They have learned to make the call in a reasonable time frame. On the good side, no pros in the way next week and better weather. Also all those fans along the road to the lanes will be long gone. This rain bites the big one, I had two trees from Irene take out 24 ft of my shop, and I am rebuilding it myself. Have'nt had a good couple of clean days since. Can't stand much more of this stuff

11PM update - those who didn't like the call earlier tonight will surely like this -- if the ground wasn't soft enough before it sure is now as the skies just opened up again .This latest round will make the pits impossible to navigate with motorhomes and trailers .

I can't seem to find any news about SS-Stk-SG-SC being postponed on the NHRA home page.

I wonder if they are going to inform the fans about this postponement before they arrive at the track.

It will be quite interesting to see how things will go without the sportsman. If you think about it, there may be big gaps between track action towards the end of the program. I wonder if they are trying to work up some other type of entertainment?

Last night it was on the home page; now it is on the Sportsman Racer page. Click on NHRA Racer on the far right of the home page and you will see it.

Mike, I thought the same thing last night after the announcement was made; as you said Sunday could be quite interesting.

Well, duhhhh, obviously it's not on the front page anymore. It's not important news that the average fan or racer wants / needs to know. Come on, it's not something extraordinary like Hillary Will driving a fuel car starting sometime next season, or Luigi Farndon making an appearance at the Morgantown Turkey Hill...

Re: Live from Maple Grove Raceway - NHRA Auto Plus Nationals

I want to know why the 4 classes arent being ran on Monday and get this race in the books and over with. It would have been a possible 289 cars, and we all know it would be less Monday and for sure will be less next weekend, providing the weather is good. 1 week ago today the forecast was awesome for original date, just like it is right now for next week. I guess 1 good thing about next weekend is most everyone will be on blacktop. 1 time run and start elims, we are all aware of what a problematic place MG is, has been, and always will be.

I was gonna go Jason Oldfield, rant and rave an entire page, but Im gonna let it go. Nothing good will come of it. Although it would give you guys something to look and laugh at for a while.

Amish strippers!!...thanks for a good belly laugh...I'm still chuckling

You gotta wonder about building a real low end COMP car, preferred parking, better treatment, and haul the SS along....bingo bongo, no getting in line 2 weeks early, same zip code parking, factor in sitting around the holding lots, eating, time away from work...it may be a push

Not to mention the event staff...all the National Event workers will be clearing out. So now its up to the D1 people to cover the reschedule. Yeah I got the "urgent help needed" email this morning.

Personally, I would like to see this as a trend. Sportsmen one weekend and pros the next. I'd like to see the entry fee go down as well, it's increase has been due mostly to the pros in my observation/opinion. Nevertheless, they will charge whatever they can.

If they did this would they cut out the extra insurance charge for the fuel cars......Heh Heh, LOL, and yeah RIGHT !.

We you know it is hurricaine season in the Atlantic so a Fall race on the Eastern seaboard is risky weather wise at best.

This seems to have disappeared from an earlier post....Gee....I wonder how that happened !
Its a good idea if you can afford the extra car and the extra entry fee and insurance fee for the fuel cars just to get a better parking spot. Maybe bring a T/S car and claim it as a pro stock car....LOL.

I do not have a dog in the fight, and try and stay off these subjects if i can. However, some times one must state his thoughts. I thought there were 4 pro classes in NHRA-t/f f/c p/s psm. If that is true, then why is comp and alcohol running this weekend as they are sportsman classes also. If they are no longer sportsman, it is news to me,and if they are pros, why do they have reps on the SRAC. Just looks to me like the same classes get the shaft everytime. Are the alcohol reps standing up for you guys, or are they glad to be running this week while the rest of you wait a week and pray for better weather. Just my 2 cents.

NHRA needs filler for the fuel cars and the Alcohol cars can keep the track surface from rusting !

I know I would certainly be pi$$ed off,if I took vacation and drove down to see S/SS this weekend only to find out they were put off to next weekend. The event schedule on NHRA.com should be updated as a courtesy to the fans that are looking forward to seeing
real race cars and not just the noisy leakers that are running this weekend.

Joe Hertline 09-29-2011 02:48 PM

Re: Live from Maple Grove Raceway - NHRA Auto Plus Nationals

I usually don't post at 2:45 pm, but since I've burned vacation time for this race I might as well. Certainly a difficult situation for all as we have no control over the weather, but waiting until Wednesday night to make this decision cost a lot of people (sportsman racers) a LOT of money. I have to think, based on past experiences, that this could have been called last weekend when the initial letter went out - either way, I'll take this as a lesson learned.

I'm really just disappointed to be missing out on the excitement of a national event, like everybody else, but I do appreciate the effort by our sportsman reps to keep us informed. Good luck to all that make it back next weekend.

If we stop signing up for nationals , maybe nhra would reconsider this BS fee.

Off Topic?
Go out and support your local S/SS associations.
Why bother at all with national events, and divisionals' for that matter .
If you don't intend on competing for a national or divisional title what is the point.
Go to your nearest S/SS assoc race and believe me your eyes will be opened, racing can be fun again.

Like the great Indy boycott of 2 years ago....yea, right. You might recall some prominent racers said they were willing to do that but eventually the resolve weakened. I'm going to pass along to my SRAC rep that the insurance surcharge is a leverage point that sportsman racers should protest...I get really tired of walking by 10 DSR Freighliners (or 10 JFR for that matter) and knowing I'm helping foot the bill for those rigs..the PRO's should be paying every penny of the insurance costs associated with protecting spectators and their personnel.

And I agree we should collectively support the S/SS associations and I will do better at that next year, might even leave my car with friends in Kentucky and run the BG series, nice track and nice folks.

A great post Dan! Thanks for the common sense. Of course I am just a little prejudice on the subject of the S/SS Association subject, but they will eventually be the only game in town. The Associations are only as good as YOU the racer make them. If you don't support them they will go away also. Jim

Re: Live from Maple Grove Raceway - NHRA Auto Plus Nationals

Class Act! Due to NHRA's lack of giving 2 s*#ts about 200 guys parked in the middle of nowhere, and showing up @ 6pm to tell us to go home, most if not all of us are getting f#%ked with our hotel bills, that we didn't use! I could maybe see where they had "no options" for us, like I'm sure that what they spent the day worried about and not painting lines on the blacktop to make sure the pros wouldn't even have to put there garbage cans on grass. The problem is simple, NHRA simply believes that because we keep taking these constant changes, price increases and disrespect we must all be millionaires that could care less about travel and accommodation costs or taking never ending amounts of days off! The answer is we can't, but we love the sport, and we sacrifice too much for that love. BTW, they can't treat pros like us because they are all broke!(minus a few teams) and if they had to incur any additional expenses, like we do(constantly), the teams NHRA "begs" to show up, couldn't even leave their shop. Just remember NHRA, when the day comes that your pro fields go from 16 to 8 to 4 and then match racing Force vs Schumacher! You had the opportunity to have a real show with real, passionate participants. But I still love this sport and because I can't stay away, c u all next weekend!
