Re: V8 vega

"The Chevrolet Vega is remembered as one of General Motors' worst cars, a troublesome rust-bucket prone to gas tank fires and melting engines."

"even worse than the Pinto, many readers insisted, was the Chevrolet Vega. It sold well. Then the body started to rust. The aluminum engine started to warp. There were engine fires and mounting recalls. Horrified buyers fled, and General Motors killed the car by the late 1970s."

"What an absolute pile of junk that was. It was not uncommon for the engine to start burning oil before 50,000 miles. The early models were complete rust buckets. The quality control was atrocious. And they had a reverse-hinged hood that came through the windshield in head-on collisions."

As I said, a POS!

Even less space under the hood of my Firebird with a big block nestled between the shock towers, the carb partially under the cowl and up tight to the underside of the stock flat hood and the distributor under the windshield that can't be removed without removing the intake manifold or pulling the engine. THAT is "very limited space"

I think a race Vega is a great looking car but in stock form it was a horrible car. Any engine that the cylinder head seems to out weigh the assembled short block is a oddball. To this day out of all the cylinder heads I had to carry around a machine shop a fully assembled Vega head is one of the most awkward but a integrated 250 Chevy would match it. We had one customer that loved Vegas and brought several of the blocks to have sleeved you know one of those days ya just couldn’t wait to get to work.

He believes if he keeps telling everyone how much he know, and how badazz his cars are that at some point someone might even believe it.

I see mr. desk top dyno, a nobody, a computer programmer, an old man who never raced and that no one here with a clue gives him, nor his malarkey the time of day, has decided again, to reply only to comment about me.

Pathetic!

Knew a guy once, was brilliant with his mechanical knowledge and was a great resource. I noticed though that every time he helped, he also added snide comments or ridiculed anyone who questioned his ways. After a while I stopped seeking advice from him and I noticed that while he was good, nobody wanted to be around him due to his attitude. I saw he won a race and not a single person cheered. Nobody congratulated him and he went back to his motorhome by himself. I always wondered how he felt, getting to the top but not having anyone to enjoy it because he was so caustic to be around.

I try not to be that guy, wish others would do the same.
