Re: Jerry Eckman reinstated by NHRA

Eckman was eligible for reinstatement years ago, but refused to pay the fine he agreed to when he was suspended. Apparently someone finally paid his fine for him. It was like $1500.

I was at a function where Allen Johnson was speaking once. Someone asked him about the Wayne County deal and his reply was: "I am still close friends with Darrell and Dave. Neither one has ever gave an inkling of what was happening, but (and he laughs) you know what they were doing".

He actually likes Stock and Super Stock, I spoke to him a couple of times in the lanes when Pro Stock was in the lanes at the same time. He was almost as much fun as Grumpy Jenkins, who was hilarious just about every time I talked to him.

Interesting Alan, It's fascinating how meeting someone face to face like you have Warren can form a completely different perception of someone compared to how I may "see" them. He sure seems intense on TV at the end of a run, but I find it quite refreshing to hear that he's funny and fun to be around. It's also very cool that he likes Stock and Super Stock. Maybe he should pull a Jeggie or a Jason Line and run a class car too. Now THAT would be cool !!!

Re: Jerry Eckman reinstated by NHRA

Is anyone here besides me having a problem with the pieces of Eckman's situation fitting together?? I am assuming here that Jerry's story is true and correct.

Maybe I missed something but according to the cp article, Jerry shows up at the race track and is present in the pits of a race team he doesn't own, tinkering with a car he doesn't own.

The vehicle has not been teched in and Jerry has not signed a tech card or declared to NHRA that he intends to compete in Pro Stock, a race he has entered as a driver, with that car.

It is not "illegal" to possess a nitrous bottle at an NHRA track. That car, with a complete working nitrous system, could have been raced at a match race promo the night before. It had not yet been presented to NHRA as a legal Pro Stocker with a licensed driver.

There are plenty of plausible, "legal" explanations for what happened. If all this is true, I think I would have given a lot of thought as to how and where I was going to spend the money he gave to NHRA.

That being said, I'm glad to see him in the driver's seat again.

When Warren is at his pit, his engineering mind is working all the time and he might appear to not be friendly.

There's that intensity, completely understandable. I found Glidden to be kind of like that at the races too. Must have something to do with being an engine builder/driver/team owner .......

Last I read, Jerry couldn't pay the whole fine, he still owed a balance of $15,000, not $1500. NHRA has finally "forgiven" the fine. If his partner was worth a damn as a man, he'd have payed the entire fine for him immediately.

If I recall the Dodge boys shop at the time was in Newark Ohio. My ex Brother in law had a shop right next to them, that's where the break in occurred?
