That being said we Do have choices though many wouldn't even entertain the idea of possibly racing say with IHRA, or your local Stock S/S series. Heck I'm considering all options. I've enjoyed racing both I&N both have their positives and negatives. Heck may even throw together some junk in the corner and simply bracket race. Never raced to try to make any money at it it's simply recreational for me, however at some point I have to decide just how much I'm willing to spend on a hobby. Joe

Joe,
While our struggles this year are a small factor, we decided over the winter that we'd support the combo races, even if it meant we might skip "the tour". We went to Bowling Green for the points race, and Kevin went to Reynolds. He went to the open at Bowling Green as well, but that's really our home track, and besides, NitroPlate and Bowling Green had a $5K to win combo race there that Saturday night.

We spent most of the year at combo races. We'll do that again next year. I'm hoping we can improve significantly on the 26 car field we had at Jackson Sunday, and the 66 car field we had at Bowling Green two weeks ago. We hope to have some bigger money combos at both tracks in 2012. We are almost certain to have the $5K to win combo Saturday night at the Bowling Green open, and possibly as many as 4-5 others between the two tracks.

At Jackson, I saw David Glidewell walk the staging lanes and personally thank every class racer he was able to get to, and that was most every one in attendance. Not many tracks will guarantee a $1K purse for a $50 entry fee when 15 cars show up. David Glidewell did it all year, and he and NitroPlate did it Sunday when they paid $2K to win for a 26 car field at a $50 entry fee.

Racers, come race with us in Jackson TN and Bowling Green KY for the combo races in 2012. I guarantee you'll be treated like a treasured customer, and you'll be paid the full purse for your finishing position. Bowling Green even has a points fund, and they do pay the points winner as promised.

Fans, you need to come see these races. You will see a show, and it will be worth your time and money if you are a class racing fan.

WOW, this really stinks! Less banners = less wallpaper for my new garage! I usually have to craft a master plan to get them. The good ones are gone as soon as they go up! Removal fee give me a break. lol E

At a time when tracks are hurting with revenue vs. payout, that is impressive he paid out 2K with only 26 cars.

Alan:
I would love to run Beech Bend next year, but my Stocker is not allowed. :(....what a shame.....

I can only run at the other NHRA track near me. They allow IHRA cars there.

LOL

Whatever will the banner collectors do now ??

I go to the NMRA event in Bowling Green, KY every year, and on Sat. night as soon as it starts getting dark it's fun trying to guess which person walking by will attenpt to cut the wire ties and make off with one.

They all have a certain walk and look to them. Honest.
It's almost comical when you can predict who is going to grab one ! LOL

They not only paid the $2K to win, they paid the rest of the purse as well, as advertised. They only charge $70 for a car, driver, and two crew, that's $50 to enter and $10 for a pit pass.

It takes 20 entry fees to pay just the $1K to win, never mind the rest of the purse, and David Glidewell has done it every single time. The track has been improved every single time, more paving, more gravel, you name it.

Jackson, by the way, was run with IHRA classes and indexes Sunday.

Re: New NHRA Enhancement for Sponsors

As much as it may pain me, i must say that the NHRA powers that be have crapped in their mess kit! They have financially assaulted the racer for the last 8 years and now have managed to reduce the racer participation to 1/3 of what it once was. Realizing they have squeezed racers to the breaking point they now turn to their sponsors. The sponsors for the most part have sat back and watched what has been done to the racer with little comment, even added to the insult by not paying the contingency monies promised to the racer. There are sponsors who have always been on the up and up such as Jegs, Nitroplate, Summit, MoPar, Ford and one of the smartest former sponsors, Turbo Action who saw the hand writing on the wall many years ago and dropped NHRA like a stone! NHRA has now possibly created the perfect storm, racers are not happy, and now a lot of sponsors are not happy! This, I have no doubt, will only be the tip of the iceberg. What the big wheels of these NHRA sponsor companies should be asking themselves is WHY? Why does NHRA feel the need to assault them now? Does the NHRA Board see that the gravy train they have been riding on for years is coming to an end and they need to pad the mattress before this whole thing blows up in their faces and they have to find a real job somewhere? One thing that all involved in our sport seems to agree on is that the unmitigated greed that defines Glendora can not continue! If I were the CEO of one of these big sponsor companies I would be looking hard and long as to the reasoning the NHRA greed machine has turned on them.
I have been a member of the NHRA for over 40 years and I see the NHRA circling the drain due to mismanagement. Shame on you Tom Compton. You have screwed the racer, you have screwed your employees, you have screwed the fans and now you are screwing the sponsors of my beloved sport! My sport! Not your sport! You don't race! Jim

Not if "Mr. Personality" greets you at the gate.

We were about 10 seconds from leaving after 30 seconds of conversation with the crotchety rotten old bastard. Fortunately all the great interaction with our class racer friends more than made up for the very unpleasant experiance. ;)
