Re: Musical Tastes
I was listening to Dan Bongino today and he was saying how the LIbs love starting wars now. They can't wait to pulverize Russia and Putin..He was musing how this was a complete reversal of the anti-war left.
Dan tried to re-work this next song to fit the Lib's agenda..Then he said he didn't even know who sang the original... If you didn't know, you will in a minute ;-) "War" is a counterculture era soul song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for the Motown label in 1969. Whitfield first produced the song – an obvious anti–Vietnam War statement – with The Temptations as the original vocalists. After Motown began receiving repeated requests to release "War" as a single, Whitfield re-recorded the song with Edwin Starr as the vocalist, with the label deciding to withhold the Temptations' version from single release so as not to alienate their more conservative fans. Starr's version of "War" was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970, and is not only the most successful and well-known record of his career, but it is also one of the most popular protest songs ever recorded. It was one of 161 songs on the no-play list issued by Clear Channel following the events of September 11, 2001. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJOLH8WfCaY Earlier Edwin Starr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndw9u0_nBSk |

David Lindley, long time JB collaborator and sought after studio musician passed away last week... David Perry Lindley (March 21, 1944 – March 3, 2023) was an American musician who founded the rock band El Rayo-X and worked with many other performers including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Curtis Mayfield and Dolly Parton. He mastered such a wide variety of instruments that Acoustic Guitar magazine referred to him not as a multi-instrumentalist but instead as a "maxi-instrumentalist."[1] On stage, Lindley was known for wearing garishly colored polyester shirts with clashing pants, gaining the nickname the Prince of Polyester.[2] The majority of the instruments that Lindley played are string instruments, including violin, acoustic and electric guitar, upright and electric bass, banjo, mandolin, dobro, hardingfele, bouzouki, cittern, bağlama, gumbus, charango, cümbüş, oud and zither. He was the unparalleled master of the lap steel guitar in the rock music sphere,[3][4] and an expert in Hawaiian-style slide guitar blues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i3mx_ROr1E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCT5SFn4pRU |

Cant post any Eagles .. I'm tired of them LOL. The best disc BY FAR is the Eagles At Melbourne live concert DVD. I wish you guys could spend and evening here and listen to this thing at spirited volume. That disc is the "Go To" for showing off the system. Its mixed incredibly. Jim Gorden has passed on. He was never released from custody after murdering his mother. He'll be remembered best for being the drummer with Derek and the Dominos, but he played with the Byrds, Beach Boys and others. Sad ending.

On the road for the summer months now.I stopped at a friend's place in Golden Valley..at the fire pit.. You guys know what flavor I like by now but I still had to dig a bit deep in the genre for this two-fer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAa-nINhKk8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JatUpwCfkXs |
Re: Musical Tastes
Mark, last time I was out to Phoenix I sit at a fire pit for a couple evenings. Must be a popular thing to do out west. We have wiener roast, and camp fires. But seems out west these fire pits bring out guitars. So cool to sit around the fire pit and listen to people that you had no idea could play an instrument cut loose a little.

Re: Musical Tastes
Highway songs, hmm?
This duo was a staple on the underground/ alternative East Coast FM stations. For the kids here , these stations preceded commercial AOR and the vile "classic rock " formula. There were plenty of local FM digits available for the college stations and the enterprising counter-culture promoters to use ..At that time FM was just a local deal but had the great sound and stereo capabilities.. It was mostly classical music but by the mid -60's, that all changed... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYI--v8PjcU |
