Re: "Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

Q1 Enhancement... Yeah, I went up and asked the race director if I could run again when the track dried. He basically said no. All 3 cars ahead of me sizzled the tires and they even stopped and tried to fix the track prior to my run. Anyway, my car did not even move when I left. It was also raining some down track. I tried to explain all this to the race director and he said "what does that have to do with your run". I said "other than trying to launch the car on a pile of dog turd$ and it raining, not much". Don't think he liked that response (lol). To add insult to injury, they anounce for stock to come on back up, but not if you'd already run. A bit later that had people come around and tell you you ran earlier, you could run again...urgh...... Guess I should have stuck the battery charger on earlier.

Here is the first in car of the day, Dan Fletcher in his 69 F/SA Camaro.

My week seems to get worse every day, as you know I spun like many others. They announced we could not run again. Well as you now know, they changed their mind and I did not here an announcement or I missed it, and missed the run.

I'm trying to stay up beat, but its getting tough.

That sucks, Ken. Too bad nobody came over and made sure you heard the announcement. Oh well, it's just another obstacle you'll have to overcome this weekend. We all know you can do it.

Good luck!

Ken, Larry Hill told me he thought that the aluminum center sections were legal in the Shelby's because it was a legal replacement per Carroll Shelby and Ford racing. Have fun this weekend.

I'm sure Frank Teuton was not driving a 97 Ram in AA/SA. I guess that was the V10 DP. Does anybody know why he was DQ'd?

Thanks Toby.

Greg, I have been told the same thing by many racers here. I guess it is kind of funny.

Larry, not sure what happened to Frank on the first pass, but his second pass was good.

Here is the in car from Bubba Linke.

It's a $95 INSURANCE surcharge, not a track prep surcharge. (shouldn't even say that out loud, I imagine)

Sad.

How is this any different than in years past?

Re: "Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

Well day 1 of racing at the Gators is a rap as Rich South ended up #1 in SS -994 and Drew Skillman was #1 in Stock with a flag raising -1.192 run. Stock starts out in the morning with round one. It's neat to be with Rich and Ralph for our "Over the Hill Ohio Gang" tour and end up being #1 qualifier. Well we get a bye in round one and will race the winner of Wilson vs Heuwetter match up for round two. Ralphie is cooking supper, I'm working on stats. I'll try to post more tomorrow.

BTW we are in "Witness Protection mode" also with Rich's car

Toby in the past a lot more have pushed a lot harder. With those conditions you should have had more cars a second or better under.
Now fear rules, very few will go and set records.
I predict a lot will dump class to avoid the look.

Toby Lang 03-10-2011 09:33 PM

Re: "Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

Well, whatever the trigger point is people will try to stay under it. If it was 1.15, people would be going 1.14 under. If it was .90, people would be going .89 under etc ...

Same as it's always been since the AHFS was instituted.

Here are some pictures of Stock at the scales. Tomorrow we are first out and its going to be a cold one. The temp is supposed to go down to 40, I'm guessing it will be about 50 when we run.

Here is an in car of Rusty Johnson and his 67 Fairlane and Dan Fletcher in his 69 SS Camaro. I'm still learning and trying to figure out what the best angles are. Tomorrow I hope to get helmet cam on Dan Fletcher in his stocker.

Ken I understand where you are coming from. And I'm not trying to steal this great thread.
But that should be a prime target of these boards to get nhra to factor in the density altitude into the afhs
Working on a car to slow it down is just completly wrong.

Thanks very much for the updates!

The in-car videos are GREAT! I think, with the low price of the cameras, this will be the start of something big. I'm getting one, even though I don't have a car that runs (yet). LOL! ;)

Re: "Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

I have been trying to post for the last 2 hours, internet connection for me has been erratic.

I will try again later, if a get a better connection. Sorry everyone.

Stock this morning was about 9 quicker then yesterday. Unfortunately I only picked up 5. I dialed wrong and lost first round, not sure I would have won anyway. Greg Rowe was going dead on and his a very good driver.

Super Stock did not pick up as much, 3 to 4 seemed the norm.

I have a helmet cam from Dan Fletcher's run against James Perrone in stock. It was the best race of the day, margin was 1 thou. When I get a better connection I will try to get it uploaded.

I am most likely leaving in the morning so my 'Live From" will end today. I have been on the road for two weeks and looking forward to the ride home. I appreciate all the support I get on Class Racer and for all the members that contribute to this site and the sport, thank you.

Don't worry Art, I understand.
