Re: gt class question

This math has been corrected.
66 Nova wagon is natural GT/KA and sits at the top of the weight brake.

Sorry for the math screw up.......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Station wagon shipping weight is 3062. The heaviest auto gas V8 is the 327/275. It has a SS rating of 307 and a GT rating of 295 with OEM heads. I don't know which to use. Classification weight is figured without factoring in driver weight.

Quotes are from the 2019 GT Weight section. Math is mine and not under warranty....

"Shipping weight will be determined by using the power to weight factor of the vehicle with the heaviest gasoline engine and appropriate transmission"

3062/275 = 11.13 lbs per hp. 3062/275 = 11.13 X 295 = 3284

"..and multiplying the factor times the horsepower or performance rating"

11.13 x 295 = 3284 (pick one)
11.13 x 307 = 3381

"The proper class weight will then be determined by dividing this figure by the horsepower
or performance rating of the engine used. Class is determined without driver weight."

3284/295 = 11.13
3381/307 = 11.00

GT/KA 11.00-11.49

"Shipping weight of vehicle may be adjusted a maximum of 250
pounds to fit car in class."

HEAVY MAX
+250 - 3534 = 11.98 NHRA factor
GT/LA 11.50-11.99

LIGHT MAX
-250 - 3034 = 10.28 NHRA factor
GT/IA 10.00-10.49

Not trying to be difficult, but it does have production numbers and a vin code. The info is from a GM database at OldRide.com

https://www.oldride.com/library/1966...olet_nova.html

MODEL NUMBER 13
BODY/STYLE/NUMBER 35
BODY STYLE AND SEATING 2 Dr Station Wagon
FACTORY PRICE $2,430
SHIPPING WEIGHT 2,855 lbs
TOTAL PRODUCTION Note 2
NOTE 2 Chevy II Station Wagons, rounded off to the nearest 100, Chevy II 6-Cyl - 16,500 and Chevy II V-8 - 4,900

The VIN should be 1 (Chevy) 13 or 14 (6 or 8 cylinder) and 15 (2 door station wagon)

Marks right, regardless of what some website may claim, there were no 2 door Chevy 11 station wagons made, at least by GM. you may have seen a couple of 2 door wagons around Seattle, like Al Chinns Nova, but that was fabricated, not original. That said, Chevy did make some 2 door Chevelle wagons in 1964 and 65. Pat Brooks runs a 64 Chevelle 2 door wagon in Stock in Div. 6, and also has another street 64 2 door wagon. But other than the 64-5 Chevelle, there were no Chevrolet 2 door wagons after 1960, until the Vega came out in 1971.

I went back over the guide and you guys are right. All the 66 wagons are 4 door. The link I used for my info was factory publication stuff, not made up. The notes don't brake down between 2 and 4 doors, so maybe they made 20 2 doors in 66 by mistake. I really should stick to Ford stuff...
