Bobby used to bracket race that car at Assumption, IL back in the late '70s early '80s. Only 13:50 car I ever saw leave with the front wheels 3 feet in the air.

Likely due to the 400 lbs of concrete in the spare tire. :)

Haha! He told us 300#. He also said he had a pair of mufflers he hung under it that weighed 100# each.

Another one of Bobby's tricks was to run about a half dozen oil pan gaskets between the 350 buick pan and engine.Made his own "legal deep sump pan".LOL Also had a bread box size box added to the rear end cover on the 12 bolt .That ended up burning up the r and p on the near 4000lb wagon though.

You know, Bobby was willing to try about anything to get that big old car faster, and this was back in the days when running a 350 Buick was about unheard of. He had to have been one of the pioneers for heavy Buicks in Stock. And running down in the classes like O and R didn't bother him any.
Me being local and working in the same town as him, during numerous visits to his speed shop for some spirited bench racing, he used to share stories about all kinds of crazy things he was trying on the car, some stuff that had failed miserably, or a few secret tidbits he was then trying to get away with! I had to marvel about some of the things he tried, he definitely thought "outside the box". His "sandwich oil pan gasket" trick was typical, as was the "breadbox rear end cover". Rule book didn't say you couldn't!!
But in retrospect, he's a whole lot of the reason I ever gave thought thought to jumping into this arena with the rest of you crazies!
Miss you Bobby D....

Bobby was never shy about using the brakes on the big end. I remember Bobby sending lots of tire smoke in the air and getting a little out of shape at Coles County Drag Strip. He got DQ'd because of it and Bobby was not happy!

I remember one time he had a brand set of Moroso 7.60 fronts on his car and he flat sided them so bad you could hear his car go flop ,flop ,flop when he drove past your pit .LOL

Now I know why I always got such a screamin' deal on his used front runners...:)
