Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
Ford had Alum rads as standard in the 66 FX Mustangs and Comets. I saw one in the Super Stock Magazine Maverick back in 1975.

Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
I just don't like the wording of the rule. Maybe Travis, or a Tech Official in the know, will clarify this for us. - Does my Alum Radiator have to" LOOK" like the original? - Or can I use "ANY" Alum Radiator, as long as its the same size and mounting as the original? I don't wanna show up a a race with my fabricated Alum, Keep Cool, style Radiator - that's the same stock size and mounting in my car only to be told I'm not legal. Additionally, factory look-a-like Alum Radiators are available... Is this what we have to use? - And will all tech officials make the same call? The factory Look-a-Likes weigh within a pound or two of my original ! The fabricated Alum radiators are quite lighter. What's the real rule? - Jim -

Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
I bought a "Radiator Classic" aluminum radiator for my Plymouth Duster, it looks very much like the one I had and is 7 pounds lighter. There in Houston somewhere.
I bought it off Ebay and it cost $128.51 including shipping. |
Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
AND THE QUESTION STILL REMAINS ----- can you use any Alum radiator ? Or must it LOOK like the original factory installed radiator?

Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
2 Attachment(s)
Pick the "Legal Radiator" ... or can we run either ? The one on the left "LOOKS" stock, the one on the right has a Fabricated Square Tanks ....Both are the same size and mounting.

Re: Alum Radiators for stockers ....2015
According to Bruce Bachelder, it does not have to be an exact replacement. A cross flow can even replace a top tank or it can be the other way around.
This new rule is about NHRA allowing Stock racers to use an aluminum radiator to replace the hard or impossible to find OEM one. It is not about who can push the rule by installing the smallest aluminum radiator that can be found. That would just raise a red flag for us to take a harder look at the entire car. |
