OK.. emailed Mike Baker ..and it is true.
Can use any OEM Spring.

This is Mike's response to my email..
"If it is oem design and size it is ok"

You better get clarification on what Mike says. "If it is oem design and size it is ok" says nothing definitive about pressure.

So if the Spring Pressure is 30% above Stock it will be OK?
Just so long as it is a Stock Replacement Spring!
Correct?

Hello Mike:
Called Bullet Cams for advice…
He asked me to confirm on my LT1 1995 SBC Engine.
My Car runs G/Pure Stock. 1995 Impala SS.

Looking at a replacement spring from Associated Spring VS574..
Lists as a LT-1 replacement spring.
Need to know if it qualifies as a Pure Stock Legal Spring for my car.

Keep in mind a email assurance does not hold the sway of a rulebook. Tech inspectors do not carry copies of emails. ;)

"Stock replacement per OEM spec. and must check on factory spec. open and closed pressure."

Do I have to e-mail Mike Baker to get the spring pressure numbers for my car ?

I sure hope IHRA leaves the indexes alone and just adjust the super fast PS combos with h.p.

If IHRA changes the indexes, I will probably just upgrade my Mustang to NHRA Stocker specs.

OK..Mike just emailed me again.

So long as the Spring fits in the Original Stock Pad.
The Spring is legal.

More cam and spring would eventually necessitate resetting the Pure Stock Indexes.
Kind of wished they did not do that. We are in Junior Stock Range.
Keeping the Stock Spring pressure would add only a little HP.
This change Pure Stock should be renamed Jr Stock again!

Interesting.
Then there should be an amendment to the specs book stating:

"So long as the Spring fits in the Original Stock Pad.
The Spring is legal."

As posted before in this thread, I would think the rulebook trumps any e-mail on raceday in the teardown area.

I agree...

So what will be the difference now between what a Pure Stock cam is and what a "normal" Stocker runs? Sounds like to me it will be the same cam. How much do you expect it to pick up the typical combination (if there is such a thing)?

The more I've thought about this today the less of a good idea I think it is.

Agree. Might be easier for tech, but now it would just be stock eliminator with mufflers?
