Are mini-spools legal?

Yes ,but all spools must have aftermarket axles with them.

Yep, what Mark said.

A small bit of progress. Finally cleared enough crap out of the garage to put the Mustang II inside. Have acquired a few pieces to start with. Hadn't planned on this but came up with a small aluminum fuel cell. Also have a good Holley electric pump and regulator. We now have the correct heads and intake for a 1978 FFFord 302. Thanks to John Presing, we have a set of Mustang 2 Hooker headers.

Also have the 4.62 8" gears and a mini spool. Stumbled across a guy in Louisville that had two good 8" carriers. Start working on the rear. Have a set of old "universal" Lakewood trac bars. Still studying on these, believe I have a method to make them functional. Going to take a little work and fabbing.

Still a long ways off but maybe we can get this gift motor car off the ground.

wow. 139 hp advertised/139 nhra. 20+ pw factor. should be a great U auto. look forward to seeing it. hope it works out well. love U/auto U/sticks!

I took a pair of the universal slappers and welded them to an extra pair of spring plates so they are like the better bars.

Yeah, that's pretty much the plan. Going to either use the present plates. Or maybe, see if I can find something that I can adapt to the Mutt II. Not rocket science, just a little hillbilly ingenuity. Plus, we're not making killer torque. Just need to find a way to get the car to react that it likes.

One of my headaches with this body, is shocks. Rancho makes a set of fronts. I have not searched much, yet, rears are going to be a bit of a pickle.

That's one of those things that you don't have to worry about until after you get the car to the track! What's the sense in buying shocks when you don't know what the car is going to want for shocks yet?

Haven't even budgeted for shocks yet. Just commenting that this will be one of the more difficult parts to come by. Like you told Joe Toller, finding parts for 40 year old Fords can be a challenge. When you pick a body style that was not as mass produced as a Maverick/Comet. The challenge gets heavier. On top of that, I haven't much done anything with a Ford as a race car since the 70's. I started with no Ford parts lying around.

Biggest thing with this car is to keep it in focus. Make a plan and stick to it. Keep the car in runnable condition thru each phase. Start at the rear and work forward. The only item we've stepped out of bounds so far, is an aluminum fuel cell. We got that cheap, pure stumble upon deal.

Thanks Charlie. Crappy dark photo taken from a phone. This wasn't in the plan. I can rob some pieces and fittings from my bracket car. Be easier to get a good fuel check from a cell. Cleaning the old fuel tank would be a pain, that was what I originally had planned to go with.
