Based on inflation:

$800 of 1970 dollars would be worth: $4,733.73 in 2012

$800 of 2012 dollars would be worth $135.20 in 1970

An overlooked combo from 1958 is the 332" 265 HP FE. Great cylinder head with machined chambers and high compression, good carb, good rod length/angularity. No blower cars in 1958..

Danny, after 57, there were no more 312s, and the 292s were all 2 barrels. As for the 332 cube FE, I doubt that would be very good, considering a 1964 352 has 20 more cubes, and is rated at 15 HP less (250HP). I think Ford rated their engine HP numbers way to high for most of their cars in the old days, at least until the 428 Cobra Jet came out in 68, at 335HP (10 HP LESS than the small valve, cam, carb 428 big car engine.)

P.S., I own an origional 1959 Ford 2 door sedan with a 332 and 2 speed auto, building a Stocker out of it was never a consideration!

Thanks for the education on the old Fords, guys. I found out a couple weeks ago that they got the 'ol Fairlane fired up and its going to get cleaned up, a little upholstery work, brakes redone with new tires and a tune up and will become the Great-Grandson's first car,, in a couple years. Its actually a decent looking piece,, the tail lights are intact, and the brass side trim is fine also. Being in central Oregon has been good to it,, along with some other cars of the Great Grandpas' still around the property. The 'ol guy is a lifelong Ford fan and is driving a Shelby GT 500 (late model) well into his 80s. I always get some great stories from him whenever I get a chance to see him.
