I'm not sure if Butch Leal had 'two cars' an early one used in the mid sixties as see below, and a 'later one' used in the mid seventies that is currently restored...but is it the same A990 Plymouth.

Alex, I hope you don't mind but I just used some photos from your Classracer album...anyway can you clear up some history on the car, as mentioned earlier Ken Montgomery owned it so I assume he got it off of Jack Werst or someone else...also have you started the restoration on the Jack Werst '65 A990 Plymouth yet...and whats the story on the red '65 A990 Plymouth.

.

Don't mind at all. Just having fun. Private message me who you are. Like to share info with guys I know. Heck maybe you can help me fill in some blanks, you have alot of knowledge it looks like.

I haven't figured out the owners between Jack Werst and Ken. When I got the car from Ken in 06 I think he said it came from the Scranton, PA area. Havent started the restoration except for lifting the roof off the cage and then putting the doors back on. Searching for parts. About impossible to find the glass.

As for the 65 my dad used to race/own. It is now owned(last time I checked) by the Holton family. It originally was out of Wyoming. John Wilson first 65 race car(before the brown one-if your from the midwest you'll know).

Later,
Alex

When Chrysler boycotted Pro Stock ,all the the factory drivers went back to Super Stock. Sox went back to a 68 SS/A Cuda, Dick Landy drove a SS/DA Challenger and Butch Leal drove a SS/B A990 Plymouth built by Butler. I have to assume that could be Ron Butler ! So there was 2 of them.

Leal's cars are two different cars, both have been restored to their proper appearances except for the second car, which has been restored to it's appearance as purchased by Steve Bagwell. The first was an original A990 car, I am unsure on the second, but believe it is as well. The second car was built by Ron Butler.

Flame me but the Plymouth was a better looking car that year.
JMHO!

So you like the '65 Belvedere body style better that the '65 Coronet, huh.

Yes sir!
A bit more style and the lines just seem to have some angle and muscle.
Faster looking if you will allow.
A guy in my high school had a red plymouth, 4sp that I believe was a 383. Painted it black in later years. Another friend had a gold Coronet that I think was a 361(?) four speed. Looked like a tank next to the Plymouth.
What I'd give to have some of those cars today.

Looks fast just sittin' there.

No trailer fenders and pushing a T-bird tow car.

That's dedication.

Both original cars. Have the vins in my notes somewhere. Talked to Butch a year or two ago. I think the second car was in Bud Spears livery before resto but someone can confirm that. If I remember right Butch said the second car was quicker than Sox&Martins 68 in early testing in 74??? in California. Have to look at those notes again.

FYI,
Alex
