If my memory is correct, years ago the rule book did indeed say that you needed a net if you had a cage, regardless the ET. Somewhere along the line, that was changed to the current wording.

IF you have a window net, don't install it to tight...in case of fire it will shrink and you will not be able to release the buckles, that's bad!

I have been racing my Demon for the last fifteen years plus with a full Chrome Moly Cage. It has a current chassis cert. on it and a ETI on it. I, have raced SS/JA and KA plus E/SA to G/SA.......has not had net in it since 1995 (175 Div./ Nat. Races) without an issue.

Chassis cert don't have anything to do with the window net. (chassis only)

Rulebook section 6.3 states "any car REQUIRED to have a roll cage must have a window net"
The key word is required. .....If you are quicker than 9.99 or faster than 135 mph, you need a cage, AND a window net. ....Slower than that ,you dont need the net.

Better off to be safe than sorry. I would run the net.

In the same vein though, I've seen tech tell people with a roll bar in a car that runs high 11's they have to run a 5 point harness. Take the bar out and your 40 year old seat belts are good to go. I really can't figure that one out.

I have a roll bar, Aftermarket seat and stock belts in the Duster my wife drives, I have been questioned a bunch of times in tech about not having a harness but they always end up letting us thru. I should probably put a harness in it for her but I'm to cheap to throw away new belts every two years for no good reason. Those stock belts are 38 years old now and have never been used, LOL.

Not trying to jack this thread, but if the car has a cage that was previously cerified and is not required to have a cage do you still have to get it certified every 3 years?

No....... At least, that is my interpretation of the rules.
