Didn't NHRA eliminate the ram-air / non-ram-air differences years ago because racers just kept changing hoods and it was determined there was no performance difference? I've never raced a Ford with a shaker hood but I would find it really difficult to believe an "R" spec Mustang or Cougar in D/SA (10#) would go a tenth quicker with a factory shaker hood over a "Q" spec with a flat hood. I would say at 365 HP any 428 CJ will now go a tenth quicker due to the 100# weight savings and loose nothing by having a flat non ram-air hood. There is not enough frontal area to the shaker scoop opening and the Ford shaker is not positioned high enough above the hood line to make any difference.
I don't race IHRA but I would hate to see NHRA follow the lead since I race 428CJ's. They do not need a 10 HP reduction.
Minimum, if the 428's need to be at 365 HP then they need the factory cam specs brought back into play.
