I build my own engines, don't have $35,000.00 in my whole car. Ask anybody that has seen it. I love heads up. Don't win them all, but love them.

Other question: Both ladders are fine with me, I don't care. Probably Sportsman ladder, since that is what we run from in eliminations.

If anyone pays 35k for a stocker motor they got hosed big time. What do they say about a fool and their money?

I also think the fastest car, or truck, should get the bye....but I've run into the fastest car, at least in time trials, not wanting the bye!!! So, if that's the case, with 3 cars you flip coins and the odd man gets the bye. Four or more cars, you pull cards and match up that way! Very easy!

Any odd number of cars, the fastest should get the bye.

always a sportsman ladder and if its 3 cars the fastest gets the bye and the other 2 race to see who gets him.
Remember also with making a ladder if someone breaks in eliminations and there is already a bye run in that round on the ladder NHRA will NOT let 2 byes run, we would have to make a new ladder or make both the byes run each other.

I've been down this road with the hemi deal and they are the only ones allowed to get away with this cause of the "Shootout" deal.

This procedure was explained to me by a Division Director at the Jegs Sport Nationals a few years ago. Sounds reasonable.

In a 17 car field the #1 gets two byes (first round and semi final) if he is still in.

I believe class should be set up in a pro ladder. Why? Because it keeps the other cars from qualifing at the bottom so they keep from running the fastest car.

The DD said the #1 guy gets only one bye. Flipping coins or drawing numbers makes the most sense.

I agree with Jim, Dan and IHRA, this is how it should be done. Why should class run offs be any different than the eliminator? We do qualify for the eliminator and are paired by how we qualify ...

At the IHRA Northern Nationals, there were three E/SA cars and coins were flipped to determine the bye.

In F/SA,you got the bye because neither of the other two competitors knew they could beat you anyways,so they didn't really care. You should have stayed in G/SA and had a real race, but you bailed! LOL!

If there are three cars running class that are fairly evenly matched (doesn't happen often, usually one car is considerably faster) then I think there should be a coin flip or some sort of random draw.

If there are an Odd number of cars in class, or if it's a combo ss/s, I think the fastest car under thier index should get the bye no matter when the odd number happens. (provided they are still in.) It cost a lot of money to be the number one qualifier and thus they should be rewarded. If number 1, is out, it should go to number 2, and so on. easy for everyone to understand.
